Linux  System  Engineer   Summary   The  engineering  team  at  NMI  is  a  small,  agile  group  that  works  closely  together  but  requires   independent  thinking  and  motivation.  Engineers  have  direct  influence  over  the  design  and   implementation  of  systems,  networks  and  infrastructure.  Expertise  should  include  fluency  in   Linux  and  networking,  strong  troubleshooting  and  analytical  skills,  good  communication  skills   and  a  genuine  passion  for  solving  problems  related  to  scalability,  performance,  security  and   redundancy.   Role  and  Responsibilities     • Communicate  with  staff  or  clients  to  understand  specific  system  requirements.   • Provide  advice  on  project  costs,  design  concepts,  or  design  changes.   • Document  design  specifications,  installation  instructions,  and  other  system-­‐related   information.   • Verify  stability,  interoperability,  portability,  security,  or  scalability  of  system  architecture.   • Collaborate  with  engineers  or  software  developers  to  select  appropriate  design  solutions  or   ensure  the  compatibility  of  system  components.   • Provide  technical  guidance  or  support  for  the  development  or  troubleshooting  of  systems.   • Identify  system  data,  hardware,  or  software  components  required  to  meet  user  needs.   • Monitor  system  operation  to  detect  potential  problems.   • Perform  all  other  related  duties,  as  assigned.     Qualifications  and  Education  Requirements   • Bachelor  of  Science  degree  in  a  related  field  and/or  commensurate  experience.   • 3+  years  working  with  enterprise  level  Linux  servers,  monitoring  and  storage.     Knowledge,  Skills,  Abilities  and  Other  Characteristics   • Familiarity  with  networking  equipment  such  as  switches,  firewalls  and  load  balancers  from   Cisco,  Juniper  and  F5.   • Working  knowledge  of  PHP  and  Perl.   • Expertise  with  Linux  Servers  particularly  Redhat  or  CentOS.   • Expertise  with  Apache,  MySQL,  Bash  Scripting,  Security  and  Monitoring  Tools.   • Expertise  with  Puppet  configuration  and  maintenance.   • Being  cognizant  of  Systems  Security.   • Fluent  written  communication  and  verbal  agility.   • Working  knowledge  of  PCI-­‐DSS  is  a  plus.   • Strong  troubleshooting  and  analytical  skills.   • Good  communication  skills.   • Genuine  passion  for  solving  problems  related  to  scalability,  performance,  security  and  



redundancy.   Working  knowledge  of  source  control  repositories  like  GIT.
