Pre-Summit Workshop 18 April 2017 9.00 - 4.30

Authentic and adaptive leadership - Leader, facilitator, motivator and guide Local Government is a changing and dynamic environment, with a range of unique pressures and demands. The most effective leaders are able to navigate through challenging times and build positive and engaged teams in even the most turbulent environments. The key to success is understanding that there are different styles of leadership, a successful leader must be different things to different people - a motivator, a guide, a support, a boss. In order to lead effectively, it is important for a leader to understand the unique needs of their team, and tailor their style to the situation. However, before it is possible to perfect an adaptive leadership skill set it is critical for a leader to first have a clear understanding of their own personal strengths and needs, and clearly define their own authentic leadership brand. Once a leader has positioned themselves firmly in their organisation, it then becomes possible to strike the balance between authentic and adaptive leadership. This workshop will provide participants with the skills to develop an effective leadership profile and strategies to balance the many faces of leadership during times of change and difficulty. Participants will be equipped with the tools to embrace challenges and to maintain strong relationships with their teams throughout even the most challenging of circumstances. Explore: Creating your leadership brand • Reducing resistance and engaging teams • Developing a personal leadership profile • Strategies to authentically connect with seniors, peers and staff for enhanced results Learning to adapt as a leader while remaining authentic • Embracing the many faces of leadership • Demonstrating flexibility during times of uncertainty • Driving progress through challenging times Practical strategies for effective team leadership • Building and maintaining positive team relationships • Learning to effectively influence and engage your team • Facilitating high performing teams Continuing to develop the self and others • Committing to continuous learning • Maximising your team’s potential • Ensuring a clear and achievable goal
