What this document is

The Mayor of London is required by the Greater London Authority Act 1999 to prepare and publish a London Housing Strategy, setting out plans for tackling housing need across the capital. The edition examined here was adopted in August 2018, following a public consultation on the draft strategy that ran from September to December 2017.

The strategy covers the Mayor's approach to increasing the supply of affordable homes, supporting council and housing association building programs, and setting standards for the quality and management of both social and private rented housing. It is published alongside a shorter executive summary and an easy-read version aimed at readers who want the strategy's main points without the full document.

Because the strategy is a statutory document tied to the Mayor's term, later Mayors can revise it, and the Greater London Authority's housing and land pages track any subsequent implementation plans and updates that build on the 2018 strategy's commitments.
