About the Event Taking place on Saturday 10th November, the Lord Mayor's Show is one of the nation's most spectacular events involving 6,500 participants, 70 floats, 20 military and civilian bands, together with dozens of horses and carriages, and the magnificent Gold State Coach. Its purpose is to bring the newly-elected Lord Mayor from Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice to swear an oath of allegiance to the Sovereign, celebrating a tradition dating back to 1215. There are hundreds of thousands of people on the streets and millions more watch the live BBC1 broadcast. Peter Estlin is Alderman for the Ward of Coleman Street and is in line to be Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2018/2019. Watch the video from 2017: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qe7kgBSCvq0

The Theme: Shaping Tomorrow’s City Today Peter’s aim for the Show is to champion digital innovation and skills, promoting business in the UK, maintaining London as a world-class city. He seeks to champion the need for more digital skills to ensure a pipeline of future-ready talent and tackle the ever-increasing challenges of digital inclusion. Your design should celebrate this theme, paying particular attention to the role of digital skills for the future.

The Competition Arch Apprentices, OnSide and Code Kingdoms have joined forces to create an entry during the procession which celebrates the achievements of young people, and the evolution of digital skills for tomorrow.

Who can apply? The competition is open to all Arch and Creative Pioneers apprentices on any programme and any stage in their apprenticeship.

What will you win? If yours is picked as the winning design, you will get to see it realised in full at the Show. You will also be invited to attend the Show with travel and accommodation for you and two family members included. Winning this competition will be a fantastic addition to your CV and creative portfolio, with the potential to get national press coverage.

Ground rules for applications • • • • • • • • • •

Your application must include a birds-eye view of your design in the format requested below. Your application must represent all three brands – Arch, OnSide and Code Kingdoms Your design can include up to a max of 50 people Your design must not include the use of an articulated lorry or vehicle Please work to a maximum budget of £10,000 and include draft costs Do be weird and wonderful Do celebrate the theme ‘Shaping Tomorrow’s City Today’ Steer clear of designing for a screen – people don’t have time to look at them and they move past too quickly. If you design something on wheels, please make sure your design suggests wheels which are sturdy enough to last the whole of the Procession. The Procession moves along the city streets, at around 3 to 4 miles an hour. Be aware of this and work it into your design. You can view the road map on the website here: https://lordmayorsshow.london/

Specification Your PRELIMINARY DESIGN must be submitted by Friday 13th April. It may be submitted by email to [email protected]. It should show your design concept, and give an indication of construction. It should include a ‘bird’s eye’ view of your proposed entry with approximate dimensions so we can see how you intend your entry to fill the road space, plus a visual representation (drawing, photograph, illustration). Please ensure you show which is the front of the entry. We need to know exactly what you intend to put into your road space, so detail is important. For example, for a simple entry consisting of 2 taxis and 9 walkers (13 persons in total to include drivers), the bird’s eye view could look something like the following, accompanied by photographs of the taxis and the costumes and a drawing of the flag. We need to know where you intend to place your personnel.

*this design is for illustrative purposes only. You do not need to include any of the above elements in your design. How to apply Send your application along with your contact details to [email protected] by Friday 13th April. Please supply your application as an attachment to the email in PDF format.
