COORDINATOR, ETHNIC STUDIES, HUMANITIES, AND RELATED SOCIAL SCIENCES 41G (Temporary Adviser, 0515) Under the direction of the Administrator, Senior High School Instruction assists in the implementation of the District’s Ethnic Studies, Humanities, and Related Social Sciences content, California content standards-aligned curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The coordinator collaborates with central office, local districts, and school-site personnel to develop and lead professional development and other instructional support to effectively implement instructional practices that ensure all students meet or exceed proficiency in the area of ethnic studies, humanities, and related social sciences. Primary Duties/Responsibilities:  Supports and facilitates the integration of content literacy across all subject areas in alignment with the California Content Standards.  Assists in the implementation of the District’s Ethnic Studies, Humanities, and Related Social Sciences initiatives by providing subject matter expertise for secondary teachers at all schools.  Collaborates with central office and local districts in building capacity to design and deliver professional development that aligns standards-based content with effective classroom pedagogy to increase proficiency for all students through effective instruction.  Works collaboratively with all central office and local district instructional teams to plan for and implement standards-based ethnic studies, humanities, and related social sciences instruction and access strategies to support all students to include English learners, Standard English learners, socioeconomically-disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented education students.  Supports the work of new and veteran teachers by performing school site visits, providing lesson planning ideas, and professional development opportunities; performs research for classroom teachers in order to improve subject matter knowledge and classroom instruction.  Uses student-centered data to identify and design District-wide strategies to address areas of need in ethnic studies, humanities, and related social sciences instruction.  Provides regular reports to Division of Instruction leadership and senior District leadership on progress.  Develops reports and presentations for the Board of Education.  Performs other duties as assigned. Salary: 41G, (Temporary Adviser, 0515) – E Basis ($92,391 – $115,249) – 234 paid days   

In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized “settlement” (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment). For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit. Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to budget limitations.

Minimum Requirements:  Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District  At least eight (8) years of successful full-time public school service in a certificated position(s), no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a leadership position(s)  At least three (3) years of successful full-time public school experience as a teacher  At least two (2) years of public school experience at a senior high school  A valid California Administrative Services Credential  An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by an accredited college or university  Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework* Employees who have been issued a below standard Performance Evaluation, or Notice of Unsatisfactory Act(s) and/or Suspension shall be ineligible for application to any promotion process for one calendar year following the issuance of such a Notice. Desirable Experience/Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies, Humanities, History, or Related Social Sciences from an accredited college or university  Knowledge of ethnic studies, humanities, history and related social sciences standards, curriculum, and effective evidence-based instructional strategies  Knowledge of the Literacy in History/Social Science California Content Standards  Knowledge in evidence-based and standards-based ethnic studies, humanities, history and related social sciences instruction that promotes successful vertical articulation of students  Knowledge and understanding of the instructional strategies that promote accelerated achievement of English learners, Standard English learners, socioeconomically-disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented education students  Knowledge of Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtI2) to promote ethnic studies, humanities, history and related social sciences proficiency for all students  Experience in designing and delivering professional development using adult learning theory  Familiarity with the Teaching and Learning Framework  Experience as a school site, local district, or central office leader  Ability to use technology for data collection and analysis  Excellent oral and written communication skills  Ability to work effectively with diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic, disability, and socioeconomic groups  Ability to travel to multiple sites throughout the District Application Procedure: To be considered for this position, qualified applicants must submit the following materials as email attachments: 1.
