Louisiana Tech University Office of Financial Aid Post Office Box 7925 Ruston, LA 71272 (318) 257-2641 [email protected] Louisiana Tech University has established a Student Retention Grant program to provide limited, partial tuition/fee assistance to its TOPS eligible students who have unmet financial need resulting in an outstanding balance to the University due to the TOPS award reductions. The Student Retention Grant may also be awarded to students who are not TOPS recipients but demonstrate unmet financial need due to other extenuating circumstances. These applications will require supporting documentation and approval by the entire Student Retention Grant Committee. Student Retention Grant applications are available on the web, at the Financial Aid Office in Room 240, Keeny Hall or by contacting the Financial Aid Office at [email protected] or 318-257-2641. Eligible students must submit their Student Retention Grant application for the Spring Quarter to the Office of Financial Aid no later than the close of business by the following deadline: Spring Quarter February 23, 2017 Students who do not meet the submission dates will have their grant applications considered if funding is still available.

A. CRITERIA (CATEGORY C): In order to qualify for Student Retention Grant, students must: 1. be a fulltime undergraduate/graduate student enrolled at Louisiana Tech University during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters of 2016-2017 (or Nursing student considered fulltime if memo provided); 2. have an outstanding balance owed to the University for the Spring Quarter; 3. be currently eligible for the TOPS award or document extenuating circumstances contributing to your balance; 4. maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 for undergraduate students and a cumulative GPA of 3.00 for graduate students; 5. submit an application and a supporting letter documenting the financial need (required for all applicants); 6. submit any applicable documentation to support that need (required if applying for extenuating circumstances); 7. the application and supporting letter will be reviewed by the Student Retention Grant Committee. B. OTHER GUIDELINES 1. There will be a $500 maximum award per student for the Spring Quarter and if the student has received the award in a previous quarter, the cumulative award for the year will not exceed $1500. The award for the Spring Quarter will not exceed the balance due on the student’s account for Spring Quarter up to the maximum of $500. 2. The cost of attendance must be greater than the amount that may be available to the student from all forms of financial assistance. 3. First priority will be given to students who have a complete financial aid file (a completed valid FAFSA and all other documents required for awarding of federal financial aid), have the most remaining “need”, and submit the application by the deadline. “Need” is determined by the Financial Aid Office based on Federal Financial Aid regulations. The student is not required to have accepted or received all federal financial aid for which he/she is eligible; however, the student must have completed the federal financial aid application process. 4. Students who have submitted complete applications by the deadline will be held through the first purge for the Spring Quarter in order to allow time for the review of applications. Applicants will not be held through the second purge and any balance on the account is the responsibility of the student. C. DURATION The waiver is applicable to Spring Quarter of the current year. D. APPLICATION PROCESS Students may make application to the Financial Aid Office by the specified deadlines. Late applications will be considered if funding is still available. Funds will be awarded until funds are exhausted for the quarter. E. RETENTION The student must continue to meet the criteria to remain eligible for the disbursement after fee payment. F. NOTIFICATION PROCESS Notification will be made known as soon as approval/denial for the grant is reviewed. Specific amounts and procedures for application will be made available on the financial aid web site. Potentially eligible students will be notified of availability by email. Other general communication modes will be utilized to make availability known.
