Our Certified Timber Sustainable timber? Certified timber? Environment-friendly? If you’ve been asked environmental questions on where your timber comes from, Coomers can help you to answer them. We support the internationally recognised Forest Stewardship Council system (FSC ).

What is the FSC and who supports it? The Forest Stewardship Council is a world-wide, non-profit, non-governmental organisation. It promotes the responsible growing, harvesting and on-going replanting of timber. The FSC system is supported by major environmental and conservation organisations. You may find specifications from local authorities or architects asking for FSCcertified timber: you can obtain FSC timber and wood products from Coomers.

How can FSC help you? Telling your customers that you’re buying FSC-certified timber from a Coomers branch could open up new business. For example local authorities and other government buying departments have sustainability criteria to meet and may value this knowledge. Coomers has FSC ‘chain of custody’ for each of our branches, covering certain timber product lines. We are expanding this range currently to meet your demands.

SAY ‘YES’ TO RESPONSIBLY PRODUCED TIMBER: BUY FSC-CERTIFIED PRODUCTS FROM COOMERS. (All products featured in this guide are FSC-Certified)

Technical Information Moisture content Timber, which is a natural product containing moisture, is dried artificially after the initial logging process, causing the wood to shrink. A certain amount of residual drying and shrinkage continues until stabilisation is reached. In a centrally heated home, lateral shrinkage of 2.5 - 3% is quite normal for new machined profiles.

Finished sizes Most sizes quoted are nominal, actual finished dimensions are given in the table inside this leaflet. (All sizes are approximate).

Matching boards and natural shrinkage In common with the majority of matching, beaded matching & shiplap products available, please be aware that profiles are liable to shrink laterally by 2.5-3% when fitted in a normally centrally heated home. It can be a good idea to allow time for the product to ‘settle in’ before applying any finishing coatings.

Flooring boards and natural shrinkage In common with most replacement flooring, please be aware that the above products will shrink laterally by 2.5 - 3% when fitted in a normally centrally heated home. This normal occurrence should be considered if the floor is to be a stained or polished feature floor without carpeting.

Coomers 25mm Redwood Flooring is 12% kiln dried to minimise shrinkage.
