The Carmel Region's tournament was included in the "Yes to Sport, No to Violence" (written in the center of the picture below) initiative of City without Violence. The tournament included elementary schools from Haifa, Fureidis, Yokne'am, Jisr az-Zarka, Kiryat Haim, and of course Daliat elCarmel. This picture was posted on our Instagram and Facebook. Stories from the Field At the Carmel Region's tournament in Daliat el Carmel, the Haifa footballer - Mahran Lala - kicked off one of the games.

In Beersheva, the Tomer School team had an emotional end-of-year session where counselors and kids looked back on the year and received certificates recognizing their participation!

During the last study center session for the Eshkol School's team from Acco, Yana Kruglak, the incredible tutor, ran this fun Twister activity, ending with some refreshments.

Stories from the Field At the end of year event for the two teams at Yerucham's Kol Yaakov School, the principal, Yona, said how proud she is of the journey the children went through this year thanks to the program.

A successful year in Tira coming to an end, in partnership with two elementary schools. The end -of-year activity was for both teams and included team-building and trust activities.

Our two teams in Migdal Ha'emek, from the Giora Yoseftal and Ha'Ari schools, celebrated the end of the school year with a friendly.

The Equalizer - Education on Top

Volunteer of the Week Matias Kohan. Volunteer as a tutor in Beersheva, in the Tali Amirim School's study center, through the Perach program with Ben Gurion University. He is studying industrial engineering and management. Shai, our Western Negev Regional Manager, explained: "Matias is already in his third year as a tutor in the school. The children jump all over him when they see him and sometimes they wait in anticipation for the study sessions with him more than the football practices!" Matias told us: "I think these children are going through an incredible process. There are great times and not as great, but in the end, the children are receiving alot and the most important thing is that they have fun and smile. It's so worth all the hard work!" Stiv Michaelov. 11th grade volunteer at the Eshkol School in Acco. He assists the team’s coach, Lior de Kalbo. Stiv loves to coach, to learn about the job, and to nurture the kids. The team is co-ed. Stiv shows up for every practice and is there for the children, providing extra attention ready to listen to any of their problems as well – this complements Lior’s work. Stiv helps in demonstrating to the kids the moves and helps them succeed. According to Guy, the Western Galilee Regional Manager, “Stiv brings a quiet, peaceful, professional and extraordinarily humane demeanor. He is prepared to help in any way and happily.” Stiv says, “It makes me feel good to work with the In picture: children and teach them things they didn’t know in football. Volunteer of the Week Chen Ovadia. Originally from Afula, but lives today in Carmiel. In his first year at the ORT Braude College of , majoring in industrial engineering and management. Chen volunteers through the Rothschild Ambassadors program. Jonny Tenenboim, our Amakim Regional Manager, told us: "Chen is my right hand man, both in terms of logistics, like renting equipment and setting up everything before/during/after all the tournaments. He is also responsible for all the staff who volunteer in our region." Chen shared: "The Equalizer is really important; it takes children with a love for football and connects the academic part directly to it. The organization takes care of low-income families - something which makes me appreciate the organization even more! I look forward to starting earlier next year, where my work will be even more efficient and meaningful. This will also help increase my familiarity and connection with the university students volunteering in the program." Jonny added: "Chen has done an incredible job and we are thrilled he will be continuing with us next year!"

Aluma Bar. Tutor in the Guatemala School in Jerusalem. She approached us last year through Ruach Tova and started volunteering with the school—one of The Equalizer's first schools to join the program nine years ago. She joined two Israeli Scouts volunteers and swiftly integrated. She shared: "It is a fun and fulfilling experience. Our goal was to steer the strengths of the children positively, as Janusz Korczak said: 'Be cautious with your action, but bold and free with your dreams.' I am privileged to be part of this amazing program. We should only continue to spread the light!" Gabriel Holzhacker, our Jerusalem Regional Manager, added: "It has been amazing seeing how, within just a few sessions, Aluma became so meaningful and cherished by the team. We've benefited tremendously!"

Nice to Meet Tomer School, Acco

The team is in its first year with our program, thanks to the partnership with the Acco Municipality, Community Center, and UJIA. Yaron coaches the team and the study center tutors volunteer through the Rothschild Ambassadors program. The school principal, Aliza Perski, told us: "The program complements the social values being implemented in the school. The cooperation and ongoing contact with The Equalizer staff made the program wonderful for our school. The attendance rate to the football practices and the study center sessions was almost 100%. Leaving the city and remaining in the city for tournaments, meeting other teams in the region, empowered the children and united them." Guy, the Western Galilee Regional Manager, shared: "The children went through behavior modification process, which led the team to winning two fairplay trophies in the regional tournaments. The product the school has is due to all the hard work of all involved!"

El-Manar School, Lod

One of our most veteran teams in the Shfela Region, and in The Equalizer. Amir, the school's gym teacher, coaches the team - a fact that contributes greatly to the amazing relationship between the team and the school staff. The study center is run by three local students, studying education at the Achva College - Ella (in the picture), Iman and Nur. In addition, Chamza, the assistant principal, is very involved in the program and come to the tournaments, as you can see! The last tournament of the year was the best for this this team, where it won the fairplay trophy and reached the semi-finals! Yosi, the Shfela Regional Manager, told us: "The team is incredible. It's a pleasure to see them on and off the pitch. They are a model for other schools, in terms of the partnership with the school. The school is one of the educational institutions that is getting the maximum possible out of the partnership for its children, and this has a lot to do with Chamza's involvement."

Nice to Meet Shalom School, Mitzpe Ramon

The team started this year as part of our middle school program. The team is coached by Eli Elemkais, who is both the town’s sport coordinator and the coach for our elementary school’s team at the Ramon School. A teacher at the Shalom School speaks about the strong connection between football and studies: “Our first year was wonderful – the children have gelled as a group, the grades have improved, discipline problems have decreased, and we have even twice reached the finals in the tournaments…” Gabi, the 7th-8th Grade Program Manager for the organization, added that “The school teacher follows up with the progress of the players, their grades, behavior and general performance at school. This, alongside the top professionalism of the practices (which brings success at the tournaments), assures a winning team, and not just on the pitch.”

Alharubia School, Shfar’am

The team, in its 2nd year, is coached by Arter, originally from Shfar'am, who loves the program and the influence it has on the children. Arter told us: "Due to The Equalizer, the children are motivated to concentrate on their studies, which dramatically lessens disciplinary problems and violence. The children cooperate and look forward to the regional tournaments." The school principal, Diab Swaed, told us: "During the first year the program was in our school, the change in the behavior of the children was apparent, which adds value to our educational and pedagogical process. I look forward to continuing our partnership next year, in order to continue the children's incredible experience." Guy Slama, the Western Galilee's Regional Manager, who chose to highlight this team, said: "The team is terrific. The children always arrive with a smile and with values such as mutual respect, patience and tolerance. Arter is doing wonders with the kids; he is a true educator and his peaceful demeanor rolls on to the kids. This team brings me great pride - it's an excellent example of what I strive for - instilling values together with fun."
