s n a v E e i m Ja Jamie lands solo exhibition in London after being commissioned to spray paint singer Emeli Sandé’s piano Up-and-coming 24-year-old North East based artist, Jamie Evans, completed a BTEC Diploma in Art and Design at Northumberland College. His work blends a graffiti-inspired aesthetic with fine art technique.

Jamie, who works seven days a week in his studio at Bamburgh House, Newcastle, was recently commissioned by Rocnation to spray paint a piano for singer Emeli Sandé as she prepares to go on tour.

The ideology behind my work comes from my background in graffiti, I consider myself a participant in shaping the world around me, not a spectator; however, the methods I employ are very traditional - carefully priming canvases the correct way, making my own oil paint from pigment, taking care to source the best possible quality materials available to me.

I see my art as positivity - positive vibration and when I look at a blank canvas or a wall outside, I’m inspired to turn what I see in my mind into a physical reality. Painting is very intuitive to me. I don’t think too much about it; it just comes out fluently.

Since graduating, Jamie has exhibited in shows in Newcastle and Bremen, Germany.

This degree is helping me develop my skills and confidence so I can progress to management level.

Lynn Pearce, BA Hons in Events Management With a background in hospitality and catering Lynn is studying towards a BA Honours Degree in Events Management with hopes for career development in her work at the Freeman Hospital, where she works as a dietary specialist chef.

I’ve really enjoyed studying at Northumberland College and progressing through my qualifications. I work on a seven-day rota so my shifts change regularly, but I manage to fit my course in around my work. It’s hard work but really worth it.

n o s t r e b o Nicola R

Nicola Robertson, BA Event Management Twenty-one year old Nicola Robertson chose Northumberland College because she has a passion for travel and events and wanted to do a course dedicated to her interests instead of three or four A-Levels.

I’ve always been passionate about tourism and events. During my time at the College I’ve visited many places including Disneyland Paris, Morocco to learn about sustainable tourism, Poland to visit Auschwitz and their salt mines, to compare their tourism to the UK.

Studying an event management course has already helped me to progress in to a career I’m passionate about; I’m now part of the events team at Woodhorn museum. My course is really flexible and once I’ve finished my degree I hope to further develop my career within event management.
