MALAYSIA: THE OPPORTUNITIES Malaysia is the third largest economy in South East Asia, behind more populous Indonesia and Thailand. Since the 1970s, Malaysia has transformed itself from a producer of raw materials into an emerging multi-sector economy – one of the world’s leading locations for off-shore manufacturing and service-based operations. As Malaysia continues on its journey to achieve high-income status by 2020, it is moving further up the ladder to become one of the UK’s largest trading partners within the ASEAN economy. With excellent infrastructure and transport connectivity, a welldeveloped financial sector and a cost-effective gateway to Asian markets, Malaysia is a key area in which to invest. Key sectors for the UK in Malaysia include everything from education to oil and gas, as well as retail, defence and the liberalisation of services within financial, legal and engineering. These are all in line with the nation’s growth agenda as outlined in the Malaysian government’s Economic Transformation Programme (ETP). Supported by:
