Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Christmas Eve Shooting 17th Judicial District Attorney Dave Young announced Wednesday the filing of first-degree murder charges against Anthony Gerald Wernsman in the shooting death of John Dunnigan on December 24. Adams County deputies responding to a 911 call found Dunnigan, 42, with multiple gunshot wounds on the floor of a residence at 2780 W. 56th Avenue in unincorporated Adams County. He was pronounced dead at Denver Health Medical Center. Wernsman (DOB 07/18/92), of Aurora, is charged with one count of first-degree murder after deliberation (F1), one count of first-degree felony murder (F1) and one count of first-degree burglary with intent to commit assault (F3). He was advised of the charges Wednesday in Adams County District Court. His preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. on March 18 in Division E. Wernsman is held without bond. The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual committed a crime under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. ###
