Dear CW Families, When I was in San Diego last week, I was reminded why CW is so amazing. While the focus of the conference was deeper learning through Project Based Learning (PBL), a big take away was from visiting the classrooms at High Tech High Elementary. I saw countless examples of their students engaged in activities to bring their thinking to the classroom. I saw variations of the things we do every day in our classrooms! More will be shared about this experience at a later time…right now my focus is on the affirmation I received of what our students and staff are doing…as always, I am so proud to be your child’s principal. Have a great spring break!

NWEA Map Parent/Guardian Reports: Today, we are sending home the assessment results from the NWEA Map assessment. This was the first year our students took this assessment. They tested in the Fall and again in January. Duplicate mailings will go home for students that have 2 households with report cards on Friday, April 15. There is a lot of information in the family guide. If you have additional questions, there are additional resources at http://fhps.net/departments/instructiondepartment/
Please remember the following when looking at your child’s results:
• This is our 1st year of using NWEA and our focus this year was on learning how to use the information to differentiate instruction
• It’s a single assessment that students are still getting used to
• If your child showed a decline, we know they are growing and learning. We use a variety of classroom assessments that show us that.
M-Step - Testing begins for our 5th grade students on Tuesday, April 12th! Your child’s teacher should have emailed home the specific dates/times of when your child will test. At CW, we look at the M-Step as a way
to celebrate our year of thinking! I am proud of the deep learning and thinking our students have done and look forward to watching them shine! Student Sponsored Coat Drive!: Last call-donations will be accepted on Monday, April 11th!
Thinking on Spring Break Many families will take time during break to travel or simply stay home and spend time together as a family. During the times when you are connecting with your child, feel free to ask about things they are seeing to make their thinking visible: What questions do you have? Does this make you wonder? What are three words to describe this experience?
