Management and Specialist Grade 6

Job Purpose:

To be responsible for the operation and development of the Library service at Loughborough University, London. To deliver library and learning skills support to the students and staff, to manage the print collection and Library space and to act as the key contact between Loughborough University, London and Loughborough University Library services in Loughborough. The London Campus has an ambitious growth strategy which will impact on the development of the Library resource on site.

Job Duties: Liaison  To establish and develop effective communications with staff and students to ensure their information needs are supported by appropriate resources and services.  To be the main point of contact for the London Library service liaising with colleagues at Loughborough Library and with the wider team in London to ensure consistency of service across both campuses and in accordance with Loughborough University vision, ethos, strategy and policies.  To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of course provision and research interests within the departments to ensure appropriate levels of service are offered.  To liaise with staff and students to select and provide access to resources, to support teaching, learning and research.  To act as an effective advocate for Library services at Loughborough University, London.

Collection Management 

   

To develop and advise on the appropriate use of course materials e.g. learning resource packs and use of the Reading List system (LORLS), in partnership with Loughborough Library and London academic and support staff. To be responsible for identifying current and future needs for the London collection. To implement processes for the effective operation of the Library in conjunction with the campus leadership team and the Loughborough University Library. To monitor the funds allotted to the London Library. To manage the London campus Library collection, selecting, evaluating and reviewing stock in collaboration with Loughborough Library and London academic and support staff.

Information/Digital Literacy and study skills 





To participate in the design, development, organization and delivery of generic information/digital literacy and study skills sessions for both taught and research students, this will include: o referencing and plagiarism and issues of academic integrity o the use of online material and resources o literature review and evaluation To create, develop and deliver information/digital literacy and study skills teaching for the London Institutes based on curriculum needs, this may include: o project management o report writing o specific database searching o research methods To develop learning materials for a post graduate audience in co-operation with Loughborough Library colleagues.

General  To be responsible for setting up and managing a Library enquiry service (faceto-face, electronically and by telephone) with support from Loughborough Library and the London support team.  To ensure that the London Library environment is maintained and supervised effectively.  To develop appropriate policies and procedures to support the Library service in London in co-operation with teams in London and Loughborough.

 To collect and use data and other management information, producing reports and recommendations to inform service development.  To review, evaluate and develop the Library offer at the London campus.  To work with the London Support team to promote and market activities and materials.  To represent the Library at London campus meetings; to attend and participate in other staff meetings including those at Loughborough, where appropriate.  To participate in Library-wide development initiatives as required.  To work in a customer service capacity across a number of professional services to support a range of student requirements.  To provide training in appropriate and relevant aspects of Library specific activity for the London Support team.  To carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required. Conditions of Service The appointment will be on a full-time, open-ended contract. Salary will be on Management and Specialist Grade 6, £28,982 to £37,768 per annum, plus a £2,525 per annum London allowance. Starting salary will be confirmed on offer of appointment.
