The next meeting of the California Water Plan Update 2018 Policy Advisory Committee will be Monday, April 24, in Sacramento. Committee members will focus on draft policy recommendations. The agenda and other details will be posted on the meeting materials web page. RSVPs are requested. A workshop, to help with applications for funding under the Water Storage Investment Program, will be held Thursday, March 30, in Sacramento. Members of the California Water Commission and DWR will be among those on hand to answer questions. Applications must be submitted by Monday, Aug. 14. In a report released this morning, Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) takes a look at the state’s floods and flood management. Managing Floods in California examines the state’s flood history, management strategies, and funding to support management efforts. Questions about the report can be addressed to Rachel Ehlers. The California Natural Resources Agency has released the first phase of a 10-year plan to protect the habitat of the Salton Sea, and the health of the people who live near it. The plan includes dustsuppression projects on shorelines that are expected to recede during the next decade. Wind-blown particulates from the dry lakebed can create public health problems. Details on some of the wildlife projects are available in this news release.

Comments being accepted on updated guidelines for SNC’s Prop. 1 grant program

Public comments are being accepted on updated guidelines for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s (SNC’s) Proposition 1 grant program. The SNC is proposing the latest round of grants focus on forest health projects, including those that reduce the risk of wildfires. The deadline for submitting comments is Friday, April 14.

Sustainable irrigation to be the focus of a one-day program at UC Davis

With a focus on sustainable irrigation, a lineup of speakers will provide information during a program on Thursday, March 30, at UC Davis. They will discuss drip irrigation for agriculture, and other strategies to support conservation efforts. RSVPs are required by Friday, March 24.

Guidelines for public water system management outlined in new report

A report by the National Water Research Institute offers guidelines to assist public health officials in developing programs to manage onsite water systems. Risk-Based Framework for the Development of Public Health Guidance for Decentralized Non-Potable Water Systems includes strategies for permitting projects, and applications of treated alternate water sources.
