HARSH marine and coastal environments demand advanced technical solutions when faced with the challenge of installation, repair and maintenance of structures subjected to extremes in weather and environmental conditions. Surrounded by ocean and subject to the unpredictable variations of Northern hemisphere weather systems, the UK presents a major challenge when it comes to choice of construction materials capable of withstanding the onslaught and providing effective, lasting solutions. Parex technical mortars have evolved from more than 40 years’ continuous research and development which has resulted in a portfolio of quality-assured products guaranteed to perform, whether the need is to combat aggressive attack from chlorides, wind-driven salt spray, sub-zero temperatures or extreme loadings from winter gales. Add to these the frequent requirement to place materials in less than ideal conditions, often within strict time constraints due to tidal cycles, and the choice of the right products becomes even more crucial. The Parex portfolio has been developed to provide solutions that not only perform to the highest standards, but are also easy to prepare and place when facing the challenge of limited opportunity and the rigours of the marine climate. Parex provides a wide choice of technical mortars, anchors, grouts and high specification anti-washout products to help you meet the most demanding requirements. Here are details of a number of key products from the range. For more technical information or to help you identify a product for a specific task visit www.parex. co.uk or speak to one of our technical representatives.

PAREX Marine Mortar A gun-injected mortar incorporating anti-washout agents for use in marine environments where placement time is limited. Time and early strength are of the essence in coastal applications. Parex Marine Mortar is a special cementitious mechanical repointing mortar with advanced anti-washout additives. It can be applied between tides, achieving an early initial set and providing a high strength finish. The mortar is ideal for gun injection and has a working life of approximately 15 minutes, forming an initial set after just 45 minutes. Parex Marine mortar can be injected into joints as narrow as 8mm and will penetrate to a depth in excess of 50mm, completely filling the deepest of joints. It can even be placed under water.

Tecgrip CAS Vinyl Ester A new generation single shot resin anchor cartridge with exceptional performance characteristics. Tecgrip CAS Vinyl Ester is a high strength anchor compound which can be applied using a standard cartridge gun. It can be applied in damp conditions into clean holes to anchor starter bars, threaded bars and rods, wall ties and brackets. The resin and hardener are automatically mixed during placement. Suitable for use at low temperatures, the chemicalresistant material can be placed using a standard cartridge gun. It achieves a high early compressive and flexural strength.

CSU Grout A high strength water resistant grout for use in wet and submerged locations including tunnels, culverts, marine installations and sea defences. The grout is Portland cement based with the addition of water resistant polymers designed for placement in saturated and underwater situations. CSU grout gives high strength, good flow and non-shrink properties. Placed grout gives structural support and good vibration resistance.

CSU grout is chloride free and can be safely used in contact with steel. Placement thickness may be in the nominal range of up to 100mm above water and up to 200mm when placed under water. For thicker sections, aggregate can be added. Grout placement may be made by pouring or pumping in tidal zones or underwater.

100 Newton Grout AW Ultra high strength anti-washout grout which is suitable for use in underwater conditions for a wide number of applications including repairs to offshore and marine installations, for the base structures of wind turbines and for underwater grouting projects. The material has all the attributes of PAREX 100 Newton Grout and achieves a final compressive strength in excess of 100N/mm². The mix design includes special shrinkage compensating components, which give a non-shrink grout in both the plastic and hardened states. The product exhibits excellent anti-washout properties and is ideal for underwater applications. The material is available bagged or in bulk tanks and readily mixes with water to produce the ultra-high strength grout that is easily placed to give exceptional structural support and vibration resistance. The grout gives good 1 day compressive strengths even down to 5°C. 100 Newton Grout AW is a DNV Certified product to C502 for offshore use.

Aquatic Mortar Accelerated A very fast setting mortar designed for high early strength in wet or underwater situations. Applications include the repairs of tunnels, sewers and pipes, culverts and general water sealing applications, together with tidal and marine structures, harbours, jetties, docks and locks. Aquatic Mortar Accelerated is used when ambient temperatures are low, or when an early strength gain

is required. The mixed material has anti-washout properties and will not disperse, wash out or break up in water or underwater situations. The placed mortar develops rapid early strength even at low temperatures.

Spraycrete A dry spray concrete designed for application by dry spray delivery, with water added at the nozzle. It is polymer reinforced and shrinkage compensated. Available in Summer and Winter grades, Spraycrete can be sprayed onto concrete, brick and masonry structures. The sprayed concrete is thixotropic, nonslumping and set accelerated which gives high build with minimal rebound. The product is chloride-free and can be safely used in contact with reinforcing steel. Uses include large scale and rapid repairs to concrete, masonry and brick structures; water tanks and reservoirs; extensions to existing structures; protective overlay in mechanical and chemically aggressive environments; use in marine defences, tunnels, culverts and moving water situations. Also see our Spraydeck Rapid for very early strength gain in 2 hours.

Spraydeck Rapid Spraydeck Rapid is a specially formulated blend of fine Portland cement powders, graded ASR resistant sands and 3mm ASR resistant aggregates. The mix design includes micro fibres, a synergistic blend of admixtures with an acrylic polymer and thixotropic anti washout agent. The product is specifically designed for dry sprayed applications and is pre-packed ready for site use. When mixed with water the product produces a shrinkage compensated, homogenous, sprayed concrete. The sprayed product is thixotropic, nonslumping and set accelerated allowing high build with minimum rebound. The concrete is dry sprayed and develops a rapid gain in early compressive strength, reaching up to 25N/mm² in 2 hours.
