Marine Technology Apprenticeship Plymouth, UK Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is looking to appoint two Modern Apprentices to combine work-based learning with a formal qualification. Marine Science and Technology Apprentice - Level 2 Deadline: 28.07.2016

The ocean and coastal seas are the most exciting, yet challenging, environments to work in. Over the last forty years, PML has been pioneering understanding of the oceans through combining observations and modelling. You will work at PML for four days a week, in addition to a study day at South Devon College. On completion there may be a possibility of an exciting career in science. It is essential that you have: A GCSE C or above in Maths and English; good eye for detail, ability to use own initiative; excellent communication skills and the ability to follow correct procedures; basic computer skills; and the ability to work independently and/or as part of a team. We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic apprentice to join our team to take forward the development of the Western Channel Observatory marine hardware and technology which will include aspects of the following: • Marine electronics build and design; • Computer hardware, such as single card PC, development; • Computer programming, in languages such as Python; • Marine sampling hardware maintenance.

Laboratory Science Apprentice - Level 2 We are seeking an enthusiastic apprentice to assist with and optimise PML’s core marine measurements. This exciting opportunity is aimed at anyone with an interest in the marine environment who also has a love for laboratory – based science. An eye for detail and ability to work methodically are essential attributes. The apprenticeship will cover a broad range of skills including: • Performing laboratory analyses in order to produce reliable, accurate and precise datasets; • Assisting with PML’s core measurements in marine analytical laboratories; • Health and safety assessments of all routine and new tasks; • Data analysis and interpretation; • Seawater sampling on-board the RV Quest at our local marine stations (E1 and L4).
