Ted Reinstein Book Talk

Wednesday May 17, 7:00pm – Main Library, Costin Room Since 1995, Ted Reinstein has been a reporter for Boston’s WCVB-TV’s Chronicle, the nation’s longest-running locallyproduced nightly newsmagazine. His first book, New England Notebook: One Reporter, Six States, Uncommon Stories, was released in 2013. In 2016, Ted’s second book, Wicked Pissed: New England’s Most Famous Feuds was released. His third book, all about New England’s iconic general stores will be released this fall. Refreshments.

Vertical Gardening

Monday May 1, 7:00pm – Christa McAuliffe Branch Library, Community Room Vertical Gardening: the activity of making plants grow up a structure like a wall or a trellis. This presentation will focus on the benefits of vertical growing for gardeners, mostly in regard to vegetable gardens. Local gardeners extraordinaire, Brigitte Griffin and Gesa Lehnert, will present options of trellises and where to place them in your garden.

Thursday May 4, 7:00pm – Main Library, Costin Room The Vitagraph motion picture company was one of the pioneering silent film companies in the US and for a time was the most prolific and most successful. The company introduced feature length films, art films, comedies, special effects and animation. In 1925, Vitagraph was sold to Warner Brothers. Refreshments.

Poetry Workshop

Led by Alan Feldman, Professor Emeritus at Framingham State Univ.

Tuesdays May 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, 7-9:00pm – Main Library, Trustees Room (May 2 in J Program Room) This drop-in class welcomes serious poets of all ages and levels of experience who would like to participate for one or more sessions. Each session begins with a discussion of a topic in poetry leading to a brief in-class assignment. Poets who wish to have their work discussed need to provide copies to distribute during the session. Alan’s new collection, Immortality, was recently awarded the Massachusetts Book Award for Poetry in 2016. *May 2 and 9 workshops led by Bernard Horn.

The Framingham Compost Crew is a community organization which aims to help individuals and groups in the community begin composting or expand their current composting capabilities. The goal is to keep “trash” out of landfills that could otherwise be turned into “black gold.”

The Library’s 4th Annual Fashion Show and Afternoon Tea Sunday May 7, 1:00pm – Main Library, Costin Room

Bring your mom, grandma, aunt, sister and friends to the Library for an afternoon of tea and fashion! The show will feature fashion accessories from Under the Same Moon, a foundation promoting the work of Guatemalan artisans. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase a variety of the lovely handcrafted items. Petite sandwiches, desserts and refreshments with a Guatemalan flair will be served. Ole’! Tickets are $25.00. The proceeds will benefit the Framingham Public Library Foundation and Under the Same Moon.
