Dutchess County’s “Be Tick Free!” Media Contest Campaign Materials (2017)

September 27, 2016

The Dutchess County Department of Behavioral and Community Health, together with the Dutchess County Tick Task Force, invite your participation in the 2017 “Be Tick Free!” Media Contest for middle and high school students. The goal of the contest is for students to learn how to prevent Lyme and other tick-borne diseases, and then use their digital media skills to teach others what they have learned. Students will be asked to create a 30- or 60-second live action or computer animated public service announcement on how to prevent tickborne disease. Entries may be submitted by individuals or groups. New to the 2017 “Be Tick Free!” Media Contest is the inclusion of high school students. The contest will be open to all Dutchess County middle and high school students from January 1 through March 11. Resources for learning about tick-borne disease prevention, contest rules, and an entry form will be posted online December 1, 2016. Awards and prizes totaling $500 per division will be presented to contest winners at the May meeting of the Dutchess County Legislature by the Tick Task Force. Last year's winner, Spark Media, created a video that can be viewed at http://www.co.dutchess.ny.us/CountyGov/Departments/DBCH/27169.htm. If you are interested in participating in this project, please provide a contact person and email address to: [email protected] and we will forward a link in December for the application. We encourage you to participate in this educational and creative contest.

Thank you, Donna Bolner, Assistant Majority Leader Dutchess County Tick Task Force Chair
