Fire Department to Honour Good Samaritans Who Rescued a Family from a House Fire On April 30th, fire tore through a house at 62 Duke Street and blocked the main escape route for a family of five. While calling 911, alert neighbours rushed to help and noticed the occupants gathered near a front window. With thick black smoke moving through the house, the 2 rescuers pulled each family member through the window to safety outside. The smoke was seen coming out of the window moments after the rescue operation was finished. When the fire department arrived, the blaze was so intense that firefighters could not enter right away. The two men being honored also showed good judgment by not attempting to enter the burning building. On Monday, May 16th, London Fire Chief John Kobarda and Deputy Fire Chief Brian McLaughlin will recognize the recipients for their exceptional efforts to preserve life. They will receive “Citizen Involvement Awards” and T-Shirts bearing fire safety messaging. All Media are invited to attend and interviews will be available.
