King helping residents navigate building process Starting a home improvement project can be a daunting task, from deciding what supplies to use to whether or not to get some outside help. The last thing you need is to be held up by a complicated municipal building approval process. That’s why King’s building department is launching a new service with a series of information open houses starting this month. The first one is scheduled for Wed., Aug. 24 at the municipal offices’ building department counter at 2075 King Road in King City. At the open houses residents can meet with building department staff in an informal setting to learn the ins and outs of the application process for building projects. ―We realize that people who have no experience with home renovations may not know exactly what they need to do to get their project approved,‖ said Andrzej Drzewiecki, director of King’s engineering, public works and building departments. ―The open houses will be a good way to connect with staff and have their questions answered before they start the process.‖ Staff also realize that many residents work full-time jobs and attending King’s municipal offices during the day can be a challenge. That’s why the open houses will be held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Peter Lavrench, King’s chief building official, said offering more flexible hours is part of the department’s commitment to exceptional customer service. ―We tend to see contractors and other professional builders during the day,‖ said Lavrench. ―Running the open houses after regular business hours will make it easier for residents—especially commuters—to get the information they need at a time that works best for them.‖ Whether you’re looking to build a deck or add an extension to your home, the open houses will help residents learn about the permit approval process to turn home improvement dreams to reality.
