Former Councilmember and Longtime Lifeguard Sergeant Ed Harris Steps Out of 78th Assembly Race and Endorses Todd Gloria (San Diego, CA). Former San Diego City Councilmember and Lifeguard Sergeant Ed Harris announced today that he is no longer seeking the 78th Assembly District seat and is supporting Todd Gloria. “I am extremely grateful to Ed for his support,” Todd Gloria said. “Ed has spent his entire career serving San Diego. From his 26 years as a lifeguard to his time on the City Council working on critical issues, Ed is a great example of a true public servant. “He was a wonderful colleague on the City Council who stepped into that role when San Diego needed him.” In his statement, Harris called Councilmember Gloria a “true leader who has the courage, intellect and compassion to be a strong advocate for residents of the 78th Assembly District.” “He has vision and a passion for public service that is unsurpassed,” stated Harris. “I am proud to stand by Todd, as I’ve seen him stand by so many people he has fought for including veterans, the homeless and lifeguards.” Gloria and Harris have committed to work together on various issues, including overbuilding without proper infrastructure and transit in the coastal areas. Harris’s full statement is attached and can also be found at www.toddgloriaforassembly.com. ###

Former San Diego Councilmember Ed Harris ~~Statement Regarding 78th Assembly Race~~ April 9, 2015 I am stepping out of my bid for the 78th State Assembly Race in support of Todd Gloria. Todd is a true leader who has the courage, intellect and compassion to be a strong advocate for residents of the 78th Assembly District. He has vision and a passion for public service that is unsurpassed. I am proud to stand by Todd, as I’ve seen him stand by so many people he has fought for including veterans, the homeless and lifeguards. Todd has the knowledge and determination to advocate for issues that are most important to me such as the environment, clean water, beaches and public safety. I plan to work with Todd to address overbuilding without proper infrastructure and transit in the coastal areas. I feel that it is important for the Democratic Party to be united behind one candidate for this seat. I would like to thank all the people who supported me during my term as the City Council District 2 Councilman and my Assembly run, especially my wife and children. I am in a great public servant role right now as a lifeguard, saving peoples’ lives now for 26 years. I am enjoying being back on the beach and out on the water. Ed Harris
