SAVES LIVES! Why Return Unused Medications?

Prescription drug abuse, misuse and overdose are growing concerns within our community. Pennsylvania is currently ranked 11th in the nation for drug overdose deaths. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs, prescription drug abuse has quadrupled in the past ten years and is now responsible for more deaths than illegal street drugs.

Medications for Disposal Most prescription and over-the-counter medications are accepted. Any medication disposed of through the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit must be in a sealed container such as the original prescription bottle or a zip lock bag. Be sure to REMOVE ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION prior to disposal of the medication. This can be done by removing the label itself or blanking out information using a black permanent marker.

The following items are SAFE to dispose of through the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit: • Vitamins • Liquids in the original container • Prescriptions and over• Nasal sprays • Prescription patches the-counter medications • Pet medication • Creams/ointments • Tablets/capsules The following items are NOT ACCEPTED through the MedReturn Drug Collection Unit: • IV solutions • Inhalers • Alcohol or illicit drugs • Injectables, needles, syringes
