@work RECORD-BREAKING ATTENDANCE AT 2017 GAC In February, 5,000 credit union advocates, including 100 from Minnesota, congregated in Washington, DC for another successful CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC). With representation from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the 2017 CUNA GAC was another recordbreaking conference with more than 600 of the 5,000 attendees participating for the first time! As the largest credit union advocacy event, this year’s conference did not disappoint. Whether it was CUNA leadership discussing the current credit union and political environment, keynote speakers inspiring the attendees, members of Congress discussing the new administration, or breakout sessions on hard-hitting

topics—attendees took part in important conversations and learned a great deal from the presentations and networking with each other throughout the entire four days in Washington, DC. The attendees heard quite a bit about the Campaign for Common-Sense Regulation, which was launched in partnership with the Leagues in early January. At CUNA GAC, the Leagues took the lead scheduling and participating in more than 600 meetings with members of Congress and regulators. Without this team effort between CUNA, state Leagues, and credit unions, our story about the need for common-sense regulation would not have been spread nearly as far across Capitol Hill.

“Minnesota’s credit unions continue to show their dedication to the movement and their members through strong participation in the Credit Union National Association Governmental Affairs Conference and industry political advocacy programs,” said MnCUN President & CEO Mark Cummins. “We at the Network, along with CUNA, urge credit unions supporters to continue to push for common sense regulation following the GAC by participating in the Common Sense Regulatory Campaign.” More information about the Common Sense Regulatory Campaign can be found online at cuna.org/ commonsensereg.

Minnesota Credit Union Awareness Campaign Launched This April, the Minnesota Credit Union Network Awareness and Reputation Campaign website, choosemncu.org, was made available to the public. The website includes a database of MnCUN member credit unions and their branches along with information about field of membership and services available. Research from the Credit Union National Association cites that after learning about the credit union difference, 82% of bank customers would be interested in moving one or more accounts to a credit union and 68% of non-PFI credit union members would be interested in doing more business with their credit union. The “It’s Your Choice” campaign is a statewide effort designed to leverage this research and educate Minnesota consumers of the credit union difference through strategic digital ads and the interactive website.

Minn. Credit Union Presidents Inducted into national Hall of Leaders Two long-serving Minnesota credit union presidents were recently inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C., in recognition of their dedication to upholding the credit union mission. This honor is given to those whose commitment has made a significant impact on the credit union movement at the local, state and national levels. Active in the financial industry for over 30 years, Charles (Chuck) Albrecht has been President/CEO at Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union since 2003, and is a CUES Certified Chief Executive (CCE). Albrecht has served in numerous capacities on the Minnesota Credit Union Network Board of Directors since 2006, including holding positions of Secretary/Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Board Chair. He is a frequent participant in Hike the Hill events, MnCUN’s Credit Union Day at the Capital, and CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference. Albrecht inspires others in the credit union movement through his leadership, service, and advocacy. Kent Greff has been a leader in the credit union movement for over 38 years. impact by his involvement and commitment to advocating for credit unions locally, nationally, and internationally. “Chuck and Kent have dedicated their careers towards credit unions and their members,” said MnCUN President & CEO Mark Cummins. “Their substantial involvement in the industry has benefited credit unions here in Minnesota and the movement overall. I thank them for their service and congratulate them on the honor of being inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders.” Developed in 2008, the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders recognizes credit union professionals and volunteers whose commitment to service has inspired others in the credit union movement. The names of honorees are prominently displayed in Credit Union House to remind visitors of those who have volunteered their time to perpetuate the credit union movement and who remain committed to the values and mission on which credit unions were founded.
