MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN

I.

General Statement of Purpose

This document establishes a formal Memorandum of Understanding between the SUNY Cobleskill’s Bachelor of Science in Child Care and Development degree program and The College of New Rochelle’s Master of Science in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/Early Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/ Childhood Education graduate degree programs.

To facilitate the admission of qualified SUNY Cobleskill Bachelor of Science in Child Care and Development degree recipients into The College of New Rochelle’s Master of Science in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/Early Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/ Childhood Education graduate degree programs.

II.

Requirements and Terms A. Students must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above at the time of application to the graduate program, and maintain an overall GPA of 2.7 or above at the time of completion and graduation with the Bachelor of Science in Child Care and Development degree. B. Students will receive a minimum grade of C or better on all required courses for the Bachelor degree at SUNY Cobleskill, resulting in an overall cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher. C. Completion of the Bachelor of Science in Child Care and Development at SUNY Cobleskill. D. Students will meet the academic requirements for admission including specific coursework as outlined on the attached guide sheets, application, interview and writing sample. E. Completion of the admissions application for The College of New Rochelle’s Master of Science in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/Early Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/ Childhood Education graduate programs. F. Students will provide The College of New Rochelle with a final transcript listing degree posted and cumulative GPA for the Bachelor of Science in Child Care and Development program.

G. Benefits and Advantages a. Admission to The College of New Rochelle’s Master of Science degree program in one of four certification areas – Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/Early Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/ Childhood Education – leading to initial New York State teaching

certification for qualified SUNY Cobleskill students. b. To attract qualified students to both institutions who wish to pursue a Master’s degree leading to initial New York State teaching certification in Early Childhood Education, Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/Early Childhood Education, Dual Certification: Special Education/ Childhood Education graduate programs.

H. Review and Revision of this Memorandum of Understanding a. The duration of this agreement is for two years beginning in March 2009 a re-evaluation each year before March 30th. b. Re-evaluation and renewal will be carried out by the faculty and/or staff designated as contact persons or their successors. The initial contact persons from each institution are (Faculty), College of New Rochelle and Elizabeth Lopez, M.A., SUNY Cobleskill. c. Should either party desire to terminate this agreement, notification will be given to the other party, in writing, not less than six months prior to the proposed date of termination. Cobleskill students entering the College of New Rochelle graduate programs through this agreement MUST HAVE COMPLETED and show documentation for the following certifications:

Violence Prevention Child Abuse and Abduction Prevention HIV/AIDS and Communicable Diseases Substance Abuse Prevention (These certifications are offered as part of SUNY Cobleskill’s ECDH 240 Child Health, Safety and Nutrition course.)
