GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Director, Finance leads the finance and administrative functions for WorldTeach, a global education organization founded at Harvard University in 1986. WorldTeach is now an independent nonprofit organization with programs in 16 countries. This position is responsible for the enduring financial health of WorldTeach. S/he oversees all accounting, budgeting and financial tracking systems of the organization. Key to success in this position is the ability to analyze and develop the accounting and financial management infrastructure that will support institutional growth and diversification of sources of revenue. The Senior Director, Finance manages and guides a full-time Director of Finance to effectively monitor financial performance according to budget; track expenses and revenues; and to execute all financial transactions. The Senior Director, Finance ensures that the Finance Director’s day-today financial transactions management and reporting is implemented in accordance with GAAP and donor requirements. The Senior Director, Finance takes the lead on all forecasting and financial modeling, annual audit preparation, and financial reporting to the Board of Directors, the Internal Revenue Service and major donors. S/he works closely with the Executive Director on the organization’s annual budgeting and planning process. The Senior Director will review and, when necessary, develop internal accountability and compliance systems to support future growth of the organization. Prior experience managing accounting, budgeting and financial systems in an international organization is key to success in this role. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Strategy & Systems Development    

Contributes to WorldTeach’s overall development and pursuit of its mission as a member of its executive team. Ensure the Finance and Development operations are in compliance with nonprofit best practices, and that all supporting systems and procedures support organization priorities. Develop financial models to inform the formulation of programmatic and organization strategy. Contribute to the development & implementation of the WorldTeach annual plan, analyzing staffing, operational needs, & key targets.

Position Description Team Development  Train other staff members in providing proper documentation of financial transactions; ensure that field staff is trained to manage in-country finances in keeping with organizational practices and needs.  Design and deliver quality and effective financial, regulatory & compliance training is provided for relevant team members.  Contribute to a work environment in which team members strive for excellence and mutual accountability. Representation and Reporting  Develop budgets, financial reports and other financial and operational information in support of external partnerships and fundraising strategies.  Participate in and prepare for Board of Director meetings, and other meetings as requested. Operations Management  Ensure financial systems, procedures, reporting are effective, efficient & comply with GAAP & donor regulations.  Oversee generation of audited financial statements and general Board of Director financial reports.  Provide financial oversight of budgets & resource allocation identifying areas of risk.  Oversee effective use of accounting software.  Provide assurance that risks are managed & the risk management & internal control framework is operating.  Work with the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board in overseeing the treasury risk function, including foreign currency risk mitigation & general liability insurance. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Position supervises a full-time Finance Director, as well as graduate interns. ACCOUNTABILITY: REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Executive Director WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: U.S. Office Directors, Country leadership, Finance Committee of the Board of Directors KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:  BA/S required and advanced degree in business or related field with strong accounting background  Minimum 5 yrs experience with nonprofit and international organizations  7-10 yrs experience managing geographical diverse teams  Significant experience leading finance or accounting functions  CPA is desired, but not required SUCCESS FACTORS:  Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing environment  Strategic thinker who is able to ensure systems are in place to support growth and change within the organization  Inquisitive and questioning mind in pursuit of increased efficiencies to contribute to organizations impact  Demonstrated strong team leadership skills and commitment to individual development  Strong communication skills and a commitment to “inclusiveness” and consensus-building LIVING /ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: This position is based in Cambridge, MA and may entail occasional travel to field locations.
