Message of the Director Dear

Colleagues

and

Partners,

This week we celebrated World Oceans's Day with various awareness raising activities in the South of Kenya, starting from a #BeatPlasticPollution clean up initiative in the Indian Ocean, engaging students and youth in protecting our oceans and environment and a continued conversation around Blue and Green Entrepreneurship. In the words of the UNESCO Director-General: “No country alone is capable of measuring changes in the ocean, nor of cleaning and protecting it. Through international cooperation, technology transfer and knowledge sharing, we can succeed in developing environmentally friendly

As part of the continued efforts of strengthening the media enabling environment in Ethiopia, UNESCO initiated the community radio sustainability project that runs from 2018 to 2020. The objective of the training was to share the global experience of community media sustainability mechanisms to community radio stations and supporting government offices. Moreover, it gave the opportunity to observe the practical position of community radio in Ethiopia's media landscape, its complementary public service role in broadcasting and the availability of partnership, donor support and funding mechanisms, to map the community
