Metropolitan club rugby PROMOTION-RELEGATION MATCH

GREEN ISLAND

WEST TAIERI

v Forsyth Barr Stadium Kickoff: 5:00pm Referee: Mitchell Will AR’s: Eden Brown & Sam Adam

West Taieri in just their second season in Premier 2 have had a season to remember, they went through the round robin stages only suffering defeat once, and come finals despite some nail biting finishes, they held their nerve to claim the Premier 2 title. It seems tasting glory in the Premier 2 competition wasn’t enough for the boys from Outram, they’ve decided and are well within their right to challenge the big boys from the Premier 1 in a Promotion/Relegation match. Unfortunately for the Green Island faithful they are the big boys tonight! Green Island: It’s been over two months since the might of Green Island have stepped out onto the field, but don’t expect them to use that as an excuse. The Grizzlies, since being notified of the match, have come together as one and are primed and ready to go. Upfront the experience of Mirrielees, Williams and McCutcheon will be huge, they led the way all season for Green Island and will be asked to do it again one more time. Inspirational captain Sam Eriepa returns to the midfield whilst the dangerous Alex Barnsley (first five) and Sunia Makasini (fullback) will look forward to playing in conditions that suit their superb attacking games. West Taieri: It will be a special occasion for veteran Dave McNeill when he runs out to a packed Forsyth Barr Stadium, in what will be his 200th game for his beloved West Taieri. Dave has been a big part of the club for many seasons now and I’m sure the team will want to put in a performance to remember for him. The front row of Agnew, Duncan and Hippolite have been in sublime form all season, they’ll need to set the platform early against an experienced Grizzly front row. Elusive outside back Caleb Holmes will relish the opportunity of playing under the roof, his expert finishing might just be the difference.
