Technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector The number of TMT firms in the City has grown in recent years; however this is a relatively new sector in the City and has a comparatively high firm churn rate (the net effect of firm births and deaths). As a result, there were only a small number of TMT firms that remained in the same location throughout the study period. TMT firms are growing in significance; there has been a 44% rise in tech jobs since 2010, making up 8% of the City’s workforce in 2014. TMT firms are found in all areas of the City, and many firms here benefit from being near to the Tech Hub which crosses the City boundary and the boroughs of Hackney and Islington.
