UTZ is headquartered in Amsterdam and works closely with its partner network in Africa, Asia and Latin America. We are looking to hire:

Monitoring and Evaluation officer First Mile UTZ is expanding its effort to get a good insight in the impact of the work we undertake with farmers and the implementation of the UTZ program (certification, traceability and market aspects). To this end UTZ developed an M&E program, an overall monitoring system and started multiple impact evaluation studies. The M&E officer will work on the UTZ First Mile program. The First Mile is an innovation that aims to bring the benefits of best practices in farm and farm group management, traceability and agricultural decision support at a low cost to small farmers and farmer groups. This program will involve working with farm level software applications to be integrated with diverse information streams in supply chains. The main objective of the First Mile program is to further optimize certification and other services offered to farmers and other supply chain actors. RESPONSIBILITIES:        

Identify data and analytics related products / services for farmers, farmer groups, traders and other stakeholders in the Cocoa, Coffee, Hazelnut and Tea value chains; Validate concepts and ideas with farmers, traders, and other stakeholders through meetings and field studies; Run desk-based and field pilots to test concepts and services; Build analytical models and algorithms; Coordinate with Technology department to identify and evaluate IT solutions and products; Manage pilots with different IT solutions; Explore ways to use 3rd party databases such as Global Forest Watch; Identify solutions to issues around data ownership, data usability and standardization.

The M&E officer is member of the M&E department (7 FTE) and reports to the Monitoring & Evaluation manager. The M&E officer will be part of the interdepartmental First Mile team.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:        

5 years of relevant work experience; Experience with developing analytical and statistical models; Knowledge or experience with IT systems related to data management and analytics; Knowledge of issues around data ownership, standardization, interchange formats; Comfortable dealing with a range of stakeholders including farmers, IMS managers, M&E officers, sustainability managers; Knowledge of agriculture value chains (coffee / cocoa) is a plus; Knowledge or experience with sustainability certification standards is a plus; Creative, entrepreneurial and out-of-box thinker.

Employment is based upon 32 to 40 hours/week. The position is based in Amsterdam and implies occasional travel.
