Adopt a Highway Clean-up happened April 28th! Thanks to Paul Terry, Jim Wendeln, Jen Wesselman and Wayne Lohmoeller! 3 hours and 40 minutes collected 15 large bags of trash plus large items!

2 miles of America were cleaner Saturday afternoon! Post Officer election this meeting! You know you want to be an essential part of our Post!! Nominations are accepted for any position! Bring up nominations Thursday! All positions are paid with praise and honor! WE ARE BUSY IN MAY!! Here are the reminders!! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ May 15th is National Peace Officer Memorial Day. At 7:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks of South Kenton a wreath will be laid at the Law Enforcement Bench and the Colors lowered to half staff. An opportunity for reflection of remembering our law enforcement community and prayers will be offered. May 19th is Armed Forces Day! Our very grateful appreciation goes out to our Post members who are actively serving in the military, guard or reserves! We also are extremely thankful for all service men and women who are currently doing duty protecting our nation! For you and your families of currently serving military members we also extend our love and appreciation for your sacrifice! May 26th the local Scout troops will decorate the graves of our military service members who have passed away. In Independence they will start at St. Cecilia Cemetery at 0900 hrs (takes about 30 minutes) then proceed to the Independence Cemetery. They are always looking for help with pointing out military grave markers. If you want to help be at the cemeteries by 0900 hrs. May 28th is the Memorial Day Parade which starts promptly at 1030 hrs. Still need volunteers for Rifle Squad. It would be great to have 7 for a true 21 gun salute! We also need help decorating the float which will be ready to decorate at 0945 hrs in the side driveway of the Independence Fire Station 1, Delaware Crossing. We always have room on the float and the Duece for riders! Legion Family, Veterans, Military and families are welcome! The parade will end at the Courthouse Downtown Independence with a public address from Post Member and Army Veteran Tommy Rieman.

Seriously, YOU have awesome stories! Let everyone in on them! Doesn’t have to be long or make it as long as you want! Email me or send me a story through the mail. Send me pictures!

Moon Brothers participate in Armistice Day, Cincy Enq, 12 Nov 1950 Of course we did! I wasn’t able to find any news articles from 1947 but I have been told that Post 275 has been participating, coordinating or organizing the Memorial “Armistice” Day for 71 years!! Don’t forget to continue the tradition of Honor! See you at the parade! Come ride with us! Your family and friends who had served our country and have passed deserve it!!! Ok, I will tell a story— Story from Wayne Lohmoeller, Ret’d MSgt, USAF… There wasn’t one year in almost 23 years of active duty I didn’t volunteer to participate in something. The very first official voluntary event I remember was a senior citizen Christmas Party hosted at Malmstrom AFB, MT. I ran around with a pot of coffee in my hand all night serving these wonderful community members I considered my elders. The next year I was a coach for Special Olympics in Great Falls, MT. That was one of the most rewarding volunteerism jobs I had accomplished. Helping others with developmental disabilities compete to the best of their abilities was so grand! MSgt Trout asked me to volunteer help clear out a Goodwill warehouse (with bunch of other volunteers) in Great Falls… little did I know that it was like 3 semi truck trailers full of items! I thought being an SP in the Air Force was physically grueling!!! I volunteered many, many times at the Great Falls Rescue Mission; serving food, packing boxes, leading signing (well, don’t judge!), preaching the word of God and helping less fortunate folks be welcome and loved. In church I volunteered to work with the youth in the AWANA (Approved Workman Are Not Ashamed) clubs… I worked as a game director, club leader for boys, story provider and commander. I was fortunate to take these kids to “AWANA Olympics” as their coach for several years. I delivered Christmas wreaths for Birthright Great Falls, MT and holiday meals for local churches. I volunteered for the Military Funeral Honor Team, Crisis Intervention Stress Management team, Wing Top 3, Group Top 4, Air Force Chapel AWANA program commander and Adjutant Post 341. I was a youth leader, church treasurer and ordained deacon. I taught at Boy Scouts Camporees and Jamborees. Essentially, I don’t know when I haven’t volunteered to do something! Glutton for punishment??? I would like to think that my parents, grandparents and family and friends had much to do with my motivation to serve! Just like you all, Moon Brothers Post 275… you all are pretty much the young group (except for Gary Holbrook-involved before me!! Thanks Gary!) and many others still hearty members—Fred Lemker, Bernie Wesselman, Jim Kudera, Bob Snow (not all inclusive but a few mentors for me in the Legion!)! I like doing for others… I was tired as hell after 3 hours 40 minutes of cleaning KY17 Saturday but Paul Terry, Jim Wendeln and Jen Wesselman motivated me to do it!!! Why do I volunteer? Hell if I know! But I feel good for the most part when it is over and someone else benefited from my time and work. I never wanted praise for the passion of helping others. WHY do you do it? Hope it makes you feel good also and you keep on giving! Anyway, Get up a do something, Love you all! Wayne
