MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN The Georgetown University Student Association AND Georgetown University This Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is hereby made and entered into by and between Georgetown University and the Georgetown University Student Association (GUSA). A) PURPOSE OF MOU: The purpose of this MOU is to formalize policy agreements between Georgetown University and GUSA in advance of signing the 2017-2036 Campus Plan. These agreements reflect areas of consensus between University administrators, student leaders, and other relevant stakeholders. B) PARTNERSHIP OBJECTIVES: The main objectives of this partnership are to support the University in adhering to its master planning principles, including addressing deferred infrastructure maintenance needs and continuing to develop a more residential living and learning community. These will be accomplished by protecting student housing rights, ensuring the timely completion of renovations and construction of student life spaces, presenting thoughtful swing space solutions, and prioritizing student engagement. C) GUSA COMMITMENTS: By signing this MOU, GUSA agrees to the following: ●

A group of relevant University administrators, faculty, and student leaders will continue to meet in order to ensure proper implementation of this MOU and meaningful student engagement in the University’s master planning process.



GUSA will continue to work to effectively engage and represent a diversity of student voices in the University’s master planning process.

D) GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY COMMITMENTS: By signing this MOU, Georgetown University agrees to the following: ●

All undergraduate students will have the ability to live off-campus for the duration of either their third or fourth years. The University’s policies will continue to reflect current housing occupancy management policies, and the University will not impose new financial or institutional barriers for students who choose to live off-campus.



The University will maximize use of the Georgetown University Hotel and Conference Center and other existing on-campus residential spaces for temporary swing space in order to complete renovations.



Upon the conclusion of a comprehensive Housing Study in Fall 2016, the University will work with the Student Master Planning Consortium to establish a mutually-agreed-upon timeline for the renovation of residential facilities based on the results of the Housing Study.



The University will not include the construction of a residential facility on Harbin Patio in the 2017-2036 Campus Plan, and will preserve the space for the sole purpose of enhancing academics and student life as part of the construction of a Student Life Corridor on Tondorf Road.



A group of relevant University administrators, faculty, and student leaders will continue to meet in order to ensure proper implementation of this MOU and meaningful student engagement in the University’s master planning process.

The above commitments will remain in place for the duration of the 2017-2036 Campus Plan. The Parties hereby represent and warrant that each person whose signature appears hereon has been duly authorized and has full authority to execute this Memorandum on behalf of the organization for whom such signature is indicated.
