Everything is so neat on this car and you can see how much passion went into getting it to the point where it is today.
OWM! Have you seen that front page!!! Amazeballs – totally!

Read more about the Razor M3 and what makes this car so special.

With this banging and steaming edition of Movere, we’re still the reason why Cape Town is this hot – especially for the awesome and hooking content we’ve got in this edition for you.

I remember the day we had the photo shoot, on every single spot we were spanning pictures, people we flocking to the cars and actually taking out their cell phones to make sure they capture this special car for themselves.

Our Limers we find the names of Andre Visser, Rouvaun Raubenheimer, Brett van der Schyff, Keagan Saal and Shaugan Dyers with his little Renault. These oaks took the stage and shared information about themselves in this edition Movere. That’s what Movere’s “Seeking The Lime” is all about. Remember, should you be interested, you can simply drop us a message on Facebook. We’ve got two hot AE92 Corollas. Strangely enough, they actually come from the same clubs too. Both those are static cars which are just simply hot. Better make sure you check out the names of Allister Ernstzen and Roland Paulse. The front page is filled up by this beast of a car. Something special. Something extraordinary. Something Cape Town.

I wish to extend a special thank you to Gerard Filies who introduced us to the Razor team. Another word of thanks goes out to the admin members, and active team members of Dub Familia, Honda Republic Squad, Lady Owners CT and Opel Squad LTD. These guys put in a tremendous amount of efforts, and your efforts are appreciated. The last one goes to Dean Damons who were so kind to assist us with the captured memories of the first OSL hook-up for 2018. As you might see, there will be a special GT-R coming soon…. but that is all I will be saying for now.

The Cape’s Car Clubs: Over the last two months, it has been very quiet in the Familia. With December being the festive/silly season and with people struggling to survive JanuWORRY, people have to hustle for data.

attended etc. After our braai, we proceeded to Kommetjie for a quick dip and some ice cream. Thereafter we took a leisurely cruise to Noordhoek where we watched the sunset.

We ended off last year with an end of year function at Tokai forest (it was not our first choice, due to the fact that we were not allowed to braai at Silvermine).

At Noordhoek beach, we had a funeral for some seal pups that we found on the seashore. Aaron was the pastor and said a few words and many of the other members were the undertakers. The Dub Familia have a very broad skill set, we do it all and there is nothing that we can’t handle.

It was a wonderful day, we socialized, the admins handed out awards and gifts to members who

Dub Familia One the 20 January 2018, we were invited by Xtreme VeeDubz to attend the Classic Car and Bike Show. It was quite an experience to see so many classic and beautifully restored vehicles. It was a very well planned event which was filled with lots of fun and it looks like we may have some new allies (Xtreme VeeDubz). We look forward to working together with them in the future. We also had a 21st Birthday in the Familia, we would like to congratulate Mr. Vieago Jacobs on his coming of age. Thanks for inviting and entertaining us and we wish you all of the best. To all of the petrol heads in Cape Town, we wish you are blessed 2018, filled with love, joys and tons of happiness. Yours in Polished Perfection The Dub Familia

We’re looking forward to a great and positive year by which we grow from strength to strength and of course focusing on giving back to the community by means we’re able to contribute positively.

The Cape’s Car Clubs:

Honda Republic Squad

The festive season has come to an end and now its back to the late nights in the garage prepping for all the awesome car events coming up this year.

Since its a new year we would like to show you some of the Honda Republic Squads members. Their rides are always fresh, clean and low... that’s how we like it. As you can see we have a wide variety of Hondas even though the most popular Hondas in the club are Ek’s. The pictures you see are but some of the club rides. Remember it is rude to stare. You are probably wondering why are Ek’s the most popular Hondas? Not only in Honda Republic Squad but also all over Cape Town.

Every last corner you will see a stanced out or kanjo styled Ek Honda and very seldom you will see a bone stock Ek as high as a Toyota Hilux bakkie. What makes these cars so popular? The Ek range is a very affordable Honda and getting parts for this range of Honda isn’t difficult. Also, the Honda Ek series is one of the sexist shapes Honda has ever made.

of car and two thousand people who shared the love for the same brand in one place was awesome. Hday 2017 gave some guys an opportunity to see people’s takes on stancing out a Honda. Now the goal is to take what you learned, focusing on improvement and make it unique.

Install a set of coilovers, Mugen lip and a set of Vtec wheels and you will see how heads turn when you rolling down the road. With a few events lined up for this year, the Honda folks, of course, rave about H-Day 2018. This event started last year and it was such an amazing experience. The feeling of having just one brand

We would like to wish you an awesome year ahead and thanks for sharing an awesome 2017 with us.

The Cape’s Car Clubs: In this article, we want to discuss a few things which “urk” the “female car enthusiast.” We dream that someday there will be no such thing as the “female enthusiast” label. Let us ask you this – have you ever heard someone use the term “male enthusiast?” Sounds ridiculous, right? Why is it surprising to find a girl genuinely interested in cars? Some of the common stereotypes attached to a “car chick” are: we are often regarded as less knowledgeable, less capable or that we pretend to like cars to get attention. Guys are intrigued; some immediately decide to hit on you. Why, in a world where sexism ought to be a thing of the past, are females still treated differently on the car scene? Before everyone screams madly that they know genuine car chicks, we point out that this isn’t to prove that there are female petrol heads out there. We know there are, LadyOwnersCT are filled with them. It is more about females still being the minority in this male-dominated

Lady Owners CT

scene and is still treated differently. We think females assume there is a huge sacrifice involved in becoming a car enthusiast. This is nonsense! You do not need to sacrifice your femininity, you do not have to be a tomboy, and yes, you can afford it! If your passion was elsewhere, you would be spending that money on that expensive boots or handbag. In the same breath, you cannot pronounce yourself as a car chick by sticker bombing your car and plastic-dipping your standard rims. It’s important to possess the correct knowledge to be taken seriously – ask questions! Just the fact that you are taking interest in cars is

cool to other enthusiasts. We cannot force our hobby on other females and we cannot make them like cars but, what we can do, is to let them see how badass our lives are because of cars – show them what they are missing out on and help influence a hobby that could craft their lives into something fulfilling. In the next edition, we will share exclusive information regarding one of our members. We will be highlighting her, tell you more about who she is, what she does for a living, and of course touch on her car. She goes by the name of Sakeenah Parker. #LadyOwnersCT Photo credit: @CarCultureSA

The Cape’s Car Clubs: You missed us - didn’t you? Happy 2018 everyone, we missed you all too but we are glad to be back and at it again. We trust you were all safe over this past festive season and we hope you got some nice mods as Christmas gifts. The Opel Squadrons took a short but sweet time out as well but since we are family, we still made the effort to see each other. So what have we been up to you ask? Well, we had a slow start to the year still trying to get out of the holiday mode but we discussed our ideas for the year ahead...to keep the members motivated and the rides revving. We recently had a general meet and greet at our usual headquarters. It was great spending time with the squad and other groups that decided to join for some lekker conversations. We had a recent hookup on a Friday night and one of the members of a fellow club suggested a charity run the Sunday to help a family in need, so a few of our members quickly made a plan and went

Opel Squad LTD

through the Sunday morning to do what OSL does best. We would like to thank everyone that was involved with that, especially since it was such short notice... They set such a great example and we know, even a little bit of help goes a long way. On a serious note, we would also like to emphasize the fact that we all need to do our part to save water as day zero is quickly approaching. We know that water is a necessary resource and we need to work together to ensure the best outcome. January was a long month, basically felt like a year but we made it and now the grind really begins. Opel Fest is

on its way as well and OSL is also trying to start some behind-the-scenes brainstorming regarding our third Motor Madness event. Thank you for your continuous support. If you are interested in joining OSL, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our Facebook page (Opel Squad Limited is a registered trademark, terms and conditions apply- haha always wanted to say that) Check back next month to see what we got up to during the month of looooove. FYI: your Valentine needs a gift too- referring to your ride obviously). Much love and blipping throttles. OSL

Have a wonderful new year everyone - OSL Team

After a terrible incident, Roland purchased the Corolla and have had fun ever since. With the 92 now part of his family, he found himself building a bond with his new family, Republic of the 92ers.

Most of us talk about being humble on a regular basis and we have many opinions on the issue but what is being humble really all about? The dictionary defines humble as having or showing a modest or low estimate of one’s importance and this would be the ideal. Why are we talking about this you may ask. Well, it is ac-

tually so great that we could find an individual that speaks to the exact definition of the word humble.

He is someone that you would sum up as the quiet type and very reserved but the more you get to know this guy, the more you discover his awesome personality. When we first saw this

car on the scene, it immediately caught our attention. We couldn’t stop admiring the way that this owner was pulling off OEM with a twist and it all came together so complimentary.

The colour of the car is on point and it places emphasis on the beauty that was yet to be discovered. It was, of course, no surprise

that we were instantly excited when the owner agreed to this feature for the new year. It was so bad that we ended up not sleeping the night before. Who are we referring to you may ask? The one and only Roland Paulse, a resident of the Ravensmead community. This man is so passionate about what he does that it is the first thing that we noticed in our conversation with him. We managed to book some time recently to take a drive out to do a shoot on this beauty.

Before we talk about the car, let’s talk a bit about what we got to know about Roland. He matriculated in 2006 from Ravensmead High and pursued a qualification and employment in the field of boilermaking and welding. He says that he is following in his father’s footsteps and he really loves what he is doing.

While we were on location, we had the privilege of meeting Roland’s amazing family. We also got to know that it was their anniversary on the day of the shoot which made this day extra special for them.

His daughter is just the cutest little bundle of joy and we couldn’t help but snap a picture or two of her as well. One could immediately see what Roland value’s most in life and how much love he has for his family.

Something that was really cool to note was that his partner knew exactly what her role was when it came to turning down those coilovers. She smiles as she loosens the tension on the springs by standing on the wheel. There are so much more that we could talk about when it comes to this good man but I think it’s time we shift our focus to that green beast. When we asked Roland about his first car, we found that he had a 180i RSi Conquest which he was in an accident with, unfortunately. A car that we are sure he loved as much as he loves his current one. Talking about current, we can finally get to that beautiful Corolla 160i that roams the streets of Cape Town turning heads.

Everything is so neat on this car and you can see

how much passion went into getting it to the point where it is today. We asked Roland whether he immediately started with modifications and the answer was not surprising.

He spoke about individuality and how one should incorporate your own personality into your build. Most importantly, you shouldn’t feel rushed to complete things but rather take your time to achieve as close to perfection as possible. The first modification done to the car was, of course, the rims, a 15’ WCI Raver that compliments this car so beautifully. He then fitted the Maxtrack coilovers, installed a full leather interior, full sound system and a branch with freeflow.

As we came to know, Roland is all about the OEM look and therefore not many changes were made to the car but the little that was, made this car stand out from the rest.

Roland is currently an Admin member of a well-known club in Cape Town called the Republic of the 92ers. He mentioned that he has

Roland Paulse

been following this club from early 2013 because he found that they were doing things that really captured his interest. It was then, of course, no surprise that he later in the year joined the club. While we had this conversation with him, we noticed something that one does not see often. He really enjoys being part of this club! He speaks of the club as if they are his own flesh and blood and we could hear that he appreciates the way that the club is being run.

This was music to our ears because that is what we would expect from every club member, regardless of which club you belong to. The other thing that was very obvious was the fact that there is growth in the club, not only for the club itself, but also for its members. After hearing all this from Roland, we couldn’t resist asking him what his opinion is on the car scene as a whole. He is of the opinion that the Cape Car Scene is growing slowly and that it is getting to the point where we ideally want it to be. We were not surprised when Roland mentioned that fact that

there is still too much division amongst car clubs and movements and that individuals sometimes tend to not open themselves up to making new acquaintances or even friends.

We couldn’t agree with him more on this point and it seems like that part is actually just getting worse by the day. We then posed the question of future plans for his car and to our surprise, he told us what he is planning for 2018! Question is, should we share that with you, the reader? Wouldn’t it be so much more exciting if you see the final product when it is revealed? We

think so!

As we got to the end of our time together, we asked Roland whether he had any words to live by and boy were we blown away by these powerful words. “Life is a risk however you should do your life the best that you know how.” We were mesmerized by the value in that statement. We wish Roland all the best with his future plans and we will definitely be keeping a close eye on this beauty.

If you want to see it for yourself, join us on 24 February 2018 for the first ever car show hosted by the Republic of the 92ers. See you there!

#LIMER:

ANDRE VISSER

My name is Andre Visser. I’m finding myself as a young 21-year-old petrol head in Cape Town who just loves the scene. Strangely enough, I received my car at the end of my matric year, but of course being a recent matriculant, I basically drove around an entire year before I was able to afford any extras. As the year passed, I first got myself a set of rims in 2017. They were a set of 15” Vols Rays I purchased from Shaba Mags. A few months passed, and later an original OEM bumper from GM. Had it resprayed and was completely excited when I had it fitted. Next, on the list, I had to make a plan to get lower. This was the reason I then opted in for a set of JOM Blueline coilovers which I again purchased from Shaba Mags. Having them fitted simply brought huge smiles to my face. Everyone knows that feeling when they first see their car with new suspension component upgrades. I currently have no performance upgrades to the car, as you see it right this moment. But in the near future, I would like to attend to get a few more kW boosted from the engine. The other minor cosmetic changes came with time. These are of course things such as the front lip, window tint, the boot spoiler and had my front wheels cambered a bit to avoid the rubbing. I joined CapeNetics and they opened a whole new look at the car scene for me. I met so many amazing people along the way. The CapeNetics group has made me feel so welcome. The community is growing by storm and if the things that have been happening in the past year been so amazing, then I can only image what 2018 will be like.

Rouvaun Raubenheimer

The name is Rouvaun Raubenheimer, a 21-year-old male from Kuilsriver, who is a humongous petrolhead; as some people will never understand. It’s not just a car, it’s a passion and lifestyle to own and modify one. In 2015 I purchased my car which was bone stock Honda EF with no modifications done. This is when I decided I will take the car to a whole new level. Ever since I’ve made sure i have applied numerous changes to my car, as I don’t like staying the same (new look every year). Secondly, all the modifications on my car were done by myself as I’m the DIY (Do It Yourself) type of guy who loves getting my hands dirty. Like I love playing around with my suspension to get the lows as its never low enough for me. I have a lot of pride in my ride and even gave it a name as many other car enthusiasts would do. I named my car Low-Motion as I love how low it sits on the road and how it breaks necks all day (turn heads). I also love doing limbo competitions with my ride as it is my favourite. My car is fitted with adjustable sleeve overs as well a rear camber kit and since I liked being unique I’ve fitted my car with a standard JDM D16 SOHC VTEC motor with Weber carb to give it that extra kick and there are many more surprises to come. Let I not forget to mention that I am a truly proud member of Honda Prime Squad - the best crew I’ve ever joined. This crew is not just a squad but a family that bonds with one another and show support where it’s needed. In the crew, I am well known for being lower than low and this was my biggest goal in my life - having the lowest static EF in Cape Town. Lastly, to all my fellow car enthusiasts - never give up on what you want to achieve in life. Remember it all starts with a dream and a vision of perfection, so work hard.

Having the car in the family for a while, Allister took ownership from his mother and then turned what was then an Ae92, and turned into a brute Ae92 2.0.

More often than not, we encounter cars that we think are so spectacular that it sparks an immediate interest for us. We manage to stalk the car on social media platforms and we even manage to take some pictures of it for our personal collection. With that, we tend to forget that the car has to be driven by an individual

who had a vision and who turned that vision into a reality.

For that reason, when we write these features, we tend to focus more on the individual than we do on the car even though we really love what we see. Talking about remarkable individuals, this gentleman has been around in the scene for quite some time and

his car has been turning heads wherever he goes.

Who are we talking about you may ask? Well, let us introduce you to Allister Walter Ernstzen, the owner of a beautiful Toyota bubble, as it is known in the car scene.

The colour of this car alone is enough to make

you want one yourself. Allister is yet another humble individual who we encountered as we covered various events across the mother city.

Having a conversation with this man is so easy because of his awesome personality and we definitely found it necessary to get his car behind our lenses. This young man is originally from Portlands in Mitchells Plain and completed his education at Princeton High. We had a good laugh during our interview when we posed certain questions and Allister would eloquently answer without bias. We were surprised to find that he had joined the car scene back in 2006 already as an enthusiast who had the same passion as many.

In 2009 Allister joined a group called Jap Motion where he spent about two years growing into the scene and learning a few things that he did not know before. We remember Allister mentioning that the love for the car fraternity runs in the family with his father being quite an

enthusiast himself. He joined the Republic of the 92ers in 2013 where his is today sitting at the head of the table.

We are sure when he reads that line he might frown a little because he really doesn’t want to be recognized as the head of the club. That is the one thing that stood out for us in the interviews that we have done for members belonging to this club. They are indeed very humble and they all work together like a well-oiled machine.

This was great news for us because that is exactly what we feel the clubs should be like. When we asked Allister what his first car was, we did not expect him to give us the answer that he did. I turn out that he inherited this very car as his first car from his mother and he has been putting all that work into it ever since he got it. The car is a 1989 model and was stock standard at the time when he got it. The first thing that he had done to the car was to change the colour to give it just a different look. He also fitted twin cam 16 valve wheels to give it that well-rounded

look.

As the years went by, there were so many changes that he had done to the car that this feature would simply not allow for enough space to write about everything. When we asked Allister why he decided to make the changes that he did, it came as no surprise that he wanted to be different to the rest.

He wanted to do something that no one has done before and he wanted it to be something that he likes and feels comfortable with.

That is when he decided to go for the import look and from there the parts just kept on rolling in. Obviously, this was a time of patience and spending quite a sum of money but as we can see, it was all worth it.

We like to understand why people are in the car scene and what exactly made them decide to join in the first place. For that reason, we posed the same question to Allister in terms of why exactly he decided to join a club and not run solo. He highlighted something that we had already discovered over the past

Allister Ernstzen

few months since we met him. He is a very sociable individual with so much love for people. He appreciates spending time with people who have the same interests and people that he can connect with on various levels.

Being part of a club would also allow him to share ideas about his car as well as his passion for the fraternity and the brand itself. This, of course, turned out to go very well for Allister as he recently took over as the head of the Republic of the 92ers. The vision that he and the rest of the members have are so clear and it is evident that they are working together towards that common goal. Let’s talk a bit about the car. We never knew that

this car was actually an automatic that he had converted into manual. The other thing that we also did not know is that this little beast is actually turbocharged and races regularly at Killarney. He fitted 8J BBS rims all around and found a balance between 165/45/15 tyres in front and 165/50/15 tyres at the back. The car is also very well known for its camber at the back which tucks very nicely on those tyres.

When we asked Allister about his sound, we immediately got to speak to the racing side of him because his answer was weight reduction. He is only running a Sony Xploid deck with mids and 6x9 speakers. The journey with this car

has been an exciting one for us and we were so happy when Allister agreed for us to shoot his baby. We asked him one last question which was pertaining to his opinion on the car scene as a whole.

He answered by saying that we should all try to be happy for everyone. Don’t judge people by the brand they drive but rather keep the scene real and alive for the love of it. These are such wise words from a wise man. We are of course excited to see what the future holds for this car as well as for the club. We will be following his story as time progress and we will keep our readers updated as far as we possibly can.

“...I would like to encourage everyone to continue to make a tangible contribution in the fraternity. Without each and everyone of you, this fraternity would cease to exist...”

Yet another month has passed and what a busy few weeks it has been in the car scene.

It seems like the fraternity didn’t waste any time with getting right into events and charity runs. While this is all great, there are some concerns regarding the manner in which these plans are executed as well as the legalities around these gatherings.

I want to speak about event management in this month’s edition because as an Event organizer myself, it’s always mind-blowing when one finds so many loopholes in the planning or lack thereof.

A few years ago, when I started out in the car scene and doing event management, I myself was oblivious to the fact that pulling an event together is draining and time-consuming. Some may think that it as easy as just putting out a flyer and hoping people will actually show interest and support but this is not the case. I think the most important part of an event and especially pertaining to the event organizer is the fact that all the attendees, all the activities, all the equipment, all the risk elements and all the cars are your responsibility and should anything go wrong,

you will need to be liable.

Yes, we have things like disclaimers and exclusions but, in my opinion, that liability never ceases to exist. It is so important to consider all aspects of the event that you are planning for and also taking into consideration various “what if” scenarios. Another important aspect of events management is making sure that all your health and safety factors have been covered. Get the necessary clearance certificates and permits to perform certain activities.

Let the authorities know exactly what you are planning so that you do not

have any hiccups. If you do not know what or how to do it, then ask for help!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting teams on board that can actually assist you to make your event as successful as possible. The aim should always be to provide entertainment that the audience wants to experience and making sure that their needs have been met in terms of their interests. Many times I find individuals who burn themselves out trying to pull an entire event together on their own. I could understand if the circumstances dictate that this is the only way, however, I fail to understand when those individuals have a full team of capable subordinates that can assist.

Does this then boil down to getting credit for pulling off something of that magnitude? How will that benefit you as an individual? You will be exhausted and emotionally challenged because even though you did everything in your power to make the event as successful as possible, there will always be negativity from attendees that might not have seen the bigger picture.

Don’t get me wrong, constructive feedback is always good and should be embraced. None of us are perfect and we all need help at some point. Make sure that you use all resources at your disposal and trust those you have chosen to follow your lead.

In most cases, the quietest individuals come up with

the brightest ideas. Happy planning and always stay safe.

Any gathering can quickly be ruined if no authorization is given to use certain spaces.

I’m Brett, a Clinical Psychologist, from Cape Town. I drive an Audi S3, which was always a car I had eyes on. For me, I not only liked the looks, but knew that it was pretty fast too for a 2 litre - the car makes a decent 253kw and 503Nm. It was tuned and ‘fettled’ with by Revo and Euroworx in Port Elizabeth, and is still running well 3 years later. The idea was to make the car look different from other S3’s, but still needed to suit my taste. Jason Neves, of Seven’s Customs, designed and made custom side skirts, lip with rods, rear diffuser and extended the rear wing. The air-suspension was installed by Marly Marl of Extreme Mods. The air-ride consists of modified front struts and custom rear bags, controlled by the Airlift 3P digital management. It drives very smoothly and safely, as the 3P unit monitors everything while you are driving. The sound consists of a MB Quart 5-channel amplifier, that powers Bose mids, with Rockford Fosgate Tweeters and a Rockford 10” P3 subwoofer. It is meant to be a sound quality setup, rather than a heavy hitting sound system. Not much has been done with regards to the interior, but it does sport Recaro racing seats. As for who I roll with, I prefer to attend shows with friends, as I prefer not to get involved with clubs – often too much politics. Most of the time, I tend to reflect ideas off my friends as to what I could do more on the car. The future plans include a new boot install, different rims, and most likely a spray job. I would also like to customise some parts in the engine bay and also the interior. For me, its all about sharing the passion with others, coming together and just enjoying ourselves.

Keagan Saal

I like to think of myself as a peoples’ person and entertainer. I’ve always envisioned myself driving a Subaru. I spent a while in the car scene, observing what was being done and knew I was going to do it all different and make a statement. Therefore, I gifted myself the Subaru Impreza 2.5R Blobeye and the very first thing I had done to it was fit a sweet set of maxtrax coilovers. I had a black set of Five star BBS rims 17”. My car was standard for a while with only those two modifications done. Later a trip to the Northern Cape ended in disaster when I became Kentblock. She spent a while in the Northern Cape before I brought her down to Cape Town. The moment my car came home, I decided it was time to fix her up and start working on the facelift. I ordered my splitters, new aftermarket headlights with angel eyes, lip, bumper, spot light covers and rear boot spoiler. When the parts arrived, I sent them away to a trusted spray painter, Amier in Richwood who sprays all my parts. My baby was gone for 3 days and when she returned I knew I had to do more. I was starting to save for air suspension. By the time I had enough for my airlift kit, I found out I was going to be a dad and of course, my son became my priority. At the end of my fiancé’s pregnancy, we were able to make my dream come true and I had my air suspension brought from JHB and fitted with Cape Dappers.

I always wanted a low car that’s when I first cut my springs as time went by I started saving for maxtrac coilovers which I altered myself (my secret). All mods done to my car it’s all my ideas as I’m a qualified spray painter. From all the trimmings to everything else you can think of I did it myself. I’ve always gone to car show’s solo that’s when I’ve started enjoying the scenes of lowered and stanced out cars. I recently joined GROUNDED NATION CAPE TOWN. Future plans for my car as at now would be as follows: 1st: A new set of mags 2nd: A sunroof 3rd: A other motor (secret) My motto that I live by daily is - Grounded Nation: Always Stay Grounded! Park Low, Drive Low, Everything Low

.....THE ICONIC VW GOLF MK1 IS A CAR THAT HAS PAVED THE WAY FOR MANY SUCCESSORS, AND THEREFORE STILL STAY UNREPLACEABLE.”

The car that debuted back in May 1974 was marketed by VW globally has had multiple variants around with globe with South Africa having the 3 door hatchback, 5 door hatchback or the workhorse – VW Caddy pick up bakkie. Since production started in 1984 and ended in 2009, the factory was able to produce 377 484. This explains why almost every single driveway of South Africa either parked one of these at some time or the garage still finds one housed within. In South Africa, we have multiple nicknames for the car, ranging from Golf 1 to the spec of the model, such as Citi or Rox, but of course, they are more commonly known as either the Mk1 or Golfie. The car entered the market as an economic budget family hatchback, one that is cheap to run, maintain and that can handle the poor South African roads. Since this is possibly the most famous car that ever hit the roads of South Africa, we still find haters against the car, and they need to be informed on some wise words, “if you can’t beat them, join them.” We’ll be looking at 7 very important points to the South African market on why you should preferably have one on your driveway – either as a car just for going spaza shop around the corner, first time driving candidate and have it as your backup, should the time ever come by which your daily workhouse decide it either wants to visit the car doctor or feel like having a vacation.

The car is a very small, spacious and economical car. It’s simple and easy to drive, designed to accommodate four people, one could cramp three people at the back, but this would be so uncomfortable.

1

Beetle Successor.

The VW Beetle is possibly the most famous car on the globe to date. Small and compact, cheap, easy on maintenance and marketed as an everyday car, VW was able to produce 21,529,464 of the “Bug” and became the longest and most-manufactured car from a single platform. This may not mean a lot to many people, but the point was trying to bring across the fact that the VW Golf Mk1 is born from a powerful bloodline.

2

Relatively cheap.

Since production of the car happened within the borders of South Africa, production was relatively affordable. Since production was more affordable, this meant it could be sold at a lower cost. When compared to other rival vehicles at the time, the price tag still outweighed them all, making the Golf a cheaper option to buy.

3

Acceptable mileage.

VW didn’t focus on having a little pocket rocket. With the target, the general urban family who were just looking to get around town, small power placed were chosen – generally around the 1.4 and 1.6 displacements. This meant the car isn’t to fuel-thirsty, yet the engine range is big enough to get a speeding fine on the South African highways…if you push it. If you had to opt for the higher spec models, the 1.8 litre engines are plenty of fun.

4

Daily Trustee

In an either 3 or 5 door hatchback and sufficient boot space, the car is big enough to suit your back needs. Engines are small for an economy, and a compact body size, enables the car to be easy to drive while providing the most basic comfort and as result, allows you to use the car as a daily car – whether commuting to work, shopping or getting the little ones from school.

5

Affordable maintenance.

Since 5000 of the car parts were locally produced, and the assembly to yielded an affordable price more could be sold. This is one of the most import factors which lead to the success of the car. Since the car was so popular, aftermarket manufactures soon wanted a piece of the pie and started creating generic parts, allowing maintenance to be even cheaper.

6

Active 2nd-hand marketnce.

The car is still being traded, swapped, sold and modified to date. With so many produced, we still find a lot on the roads, and we find more guys buying them to restore the cars as collectors’ items. With increased living costs in South Africa, the Mk1 could still be considered a cheaper option for certain folks as means of their daily commuting.

It’s clear to say the VW Mk1 is a legend that will live long. It is possible that you might be wanting to find out what the fuss is all about, and decide for yourself. If you can, get one, restore it to the best of your ability and hide it away in your underground garage, this will soon be a toy only traded by the true enthusiasts.

7

South African heritage.

An icon – undeniably. Assembled, loved and lived in South Africa, the VW Golf Mk1 is a part of South Africa as much as Table Mountain, Boerewors, and Biltong. A legend that will never be able to replace.

A desired vehicle amongst many, have undergone not only cosmetic changes but got an increase in power too. A South African first, as its locally built - from scratch.

H, I, J, K, L, & ///Razor Sharp M3 - A pure brute that was given new life as it underwent surgery that pumped the highest octane of steroids through its system.

Before we can actually get to the actual fun facts about this amazing ride, we got to take it back a few years. BMW enthusiasts took

the E90, E92, and E93 M3 apart to decipher and understand the car. The conclusion was that even though BMW added two extra pistons when compared to the previous generation M3, was the conclusion that this was still the true-hearted definition of what BMW’s M department stand for – power and precision.

The BMW M3 is a high-performance rearwheel-drive maniac that is praised by many, loved by all and hated by all other opposing brands. Sleek clean lines appeal to the eyes, while the exhaust note gives life to 4.0l V8, leaving the ladies to have a change of underwear. Therefore it clear as daylight to say the BMW

M3 has been a benchmark over the last few decades. The words Icon and Hero can be used to describe the car, but along the way, Razor Customs came along and turned this specific M3 into a legend.

Razor Customs, a name South Africans had on their lips after the birth of their first Nissan GT-R that seriously raised the bar, leaving the rest of South Africa to play catch up. The birth of Razor GT-R caused a lot of havoc, merely because the car was locally bred. For those who do not know the Cape Town Godzilla, and how things originated, keep your eyes close to Movere, as next month we will dive deeper into detail about the GT-R and Razor Customs.

The Razor M3 is a car unlike any other. More power means more brute, more external muscle means more eye candy and since the exhaust choir is provided with more volume, the choir just simply loves to perform their symphony to brings harmony to the ears. Building a car define its own class but only took

6 weeks. Within this period, the team attended to the heart of the engine. The original standard engine BMW S65 V8 engine produced 400 N.m and 309kW. After undergoing Razor surgery, the M3 now pumps a mean punch of 450 kW.

This was achieved by means of changes being applied to the software, decat exhaust system and NOS nitrous kit with the on-board computer box.

There are those who will be of a different opinion, and yes, of course, you’re entitled to yours. But whether this is not enough to your liking, its more than enough to turn this M3 into a brutal animal – sideways or straight.

For more, the car’s interior remained the same, still leaving you’re with the true essence of BMW in the cockpit. Minor changes have been applied to the upholstery with the special Razor M3 logo found displayed on the car seats. Now we get to one part of the car which has everyone starring.

Jumping from 309 kW to 450 kW is enough to have all BMW enthusiasts worship you.

On the day we went out to have the photo shoot, people flocked to the cars, interrupted us regularly. Strangely enough, this meant the photo shoot was extended by approximately 50min.

Razor M3

This all makes sense on why people would react to the car in such a way. To shed even more light on the car, the entire body of the car was locally crafted right here in Cape Town.

How hurtful would it not be to see your baby undergoing some cutting and grinding, but after

all the hurt is done, one is presented with something unique and hand built – formulated to excellence.

What makes this widebody kit extra special is the fact that not just the sides have been attended to, but the body all around, to compliment and complete the look.

From the front, the collection starts with a special lip, and widen arch fenders on the sides of the car. Special bumpers, front, and rear, have been designed for specifically the car, with particular detail given to the widened side arches. This provides a more seamless look at the lines and curves of the car. Small, minor but yet special detail. Crafted by the Razor team, the Razor M3 is as astonishing as the night sky itself. The widen body kit brings peculiar atmosphere and feel to the car, making it exclusive, uncommon and very rare. As mentioned before, BMW built an Icon, Razor Customs created a legend.
