ADVENTURE

FAMILY ACTIVITY

WHAT TO DO 1. After watching your selected film together from the Must See Movies Before You Grow Up: Adventure collection, talk as a family about your thoughts on the film.

2. Ask your child to try to remember some specific settings and locations from the film. Discuss why the setting was used in the film? How did it affect the storyline?

3. Working together with your child, complete the Ready, set, action! activity sheet by drawing either a setting from the film or a new setting that the film’s characters could have a new adventure in. You may find it useful to create a bank of words to describe the setting, before your child starts their drawing.

TAKE IT FURTHER 1. Download the 3Cs and 3Ss Literacy Tool from the Into Film website for further activities and questions to discuss with your children while watching films together at home (www.intofilm.org/resources/127).

2. Create a 3D setting for the film by using the completed Ready, set, action! activity sheet as a guideline to create a model of the setting, using a shoebox turned on its side and a variety of arts and crafts materials.

3. Using a tablet, smartphone or stills camera, and action figures or small toys as characters, take photographs of the shoebox set together while moving the characters very slightly before taking each photograph.

4. The photographs can then be edited together to create a simple animation by using an editing program such as iMovie. There is guidance on this in Into Film’s Guide to iMovie at www.intofilm.org/resources/85.
