2016 National Bat Conference Bursary Guidelines for Applicants The Bat Conservation Trust’s (BCT) National Bat Conference is the biggest annual event in the bat calendar, attracting almost 400 delegates. This year it is taking place at the University of York on 2nd to 4th September. Each year, BCT offers bursary awards equivalent to the cost of two standard weekend delegate places (a total of £492), to help Partner Bat Group members attend.

Application criteria All Partner Groups are eligible to apply for a National Bat Conference bursary on behalf of their members. Please note that applications must be submitted by the bat group; we cannot accept applications from individuals. Each bat group can submit one bursary application per year, up to a total value of £246. Where appropriate, one application can be for more than one beneficiary. For example, a group may wish to apply for £246 to assist two local members attend the conference: £123.00 going to each.

Hints and tips Make sure you complete all boxes and remember to include a copy of the bat group’s current financial status (see ‘How to Apply’). When calculating the amount applied for, the bat group should consider whether the bat group is in a position to part-fund the nominated beneficiary. Mention of this should be included in section 2.4 of the application form. The total cost of the booking sought (e.g. for a one day non-residential place, or two day residential place etc.) must be included in the application. Booking types and rates can be found by following the links from the BCT web page for the conference at: www.bats.org.uk/pages/national_bat_conference.html. Section 3 of the application form is the bat group’s opportunity to state why it feels the nominated beneficiary deserves assistance. This is the most important part of the form as the information provided will largely dictate whether the application is successful.

Rev 27/05/16

When making a decision, we will be looking for: • • •

evidence that the nominated beneficiary is dedicated to bat conservation and the bat group making the application reasons why the beneficiary would benefit from attending the conference justification for why financial assistance is required

How to apply Read the conditions of a bursary award overleaf, then complete and return a bursary application form to the Partnerships Officer (contact details are below). Remember, the application must be from the bat group, not an individual. With the application, please provide evidence of your bat group's current financial position. This would normally be in the form of a recent bank statement. BCT guarantees that this information will be used only in relation to this application and will not be retained by BCT once a decision regarding funding has been made or passed to any third party. The deadline for bursary applications is Monday 4th July 2016. Completed applications forms should be emailed to [email protected] or posted to the Bat Conservation Trust, 250 Kennington Lane, London. SE11 5RD (to be received by the deadline above). Once all applications have been considered, we will write to you confirming whether or not your application has been successful. All applicants will receive an answer by 18th July 2016. Instructions on how to book a place will be provided to the successful applicants.
