Valuing our staff National Staff Engagement Forum Design Meeting A core strand of our People Strategy, is to improve staff engagement across all levels of the healthcare service - we want all staff to have a strong sense of connection to the service and feel valued. Positive staff engagement is also a keystone of the Framework for Improving Quality in Our ur Health Service. We believe you have a unique insight into the challenges faced by your services and are often best placed to identify areas for quality improvement. We believe that listening to and valuing staff input can lead to creative, practical and nd sustainable solutions to the challenges we face. National Staff Engagement Forum Members

Dear colleagues, We recently wrote to all staff in the HSE and the voluntary sector to invite you to join the National Forum for Staff Engagement. We had a great response and the introductory meeting of the Forum was nd held on Wednesday, 22 June 2016 marking the start of something really important for Staff Engagement in our Health Service.

What’s the vision for the Forum? At the first meeting, co-facilitated facilitated by Libby Kinneen, National Lead Staff Engagement and Juanita Guidera, Quality Improvement Division Lead Staff Engagement, members were asked to shape the role of the Forum by considering and sharing ideas on: • Creating a common understanding of an engaged workforce • Designing the Forum - purpose and how it will work • Operational guidelines and communication It is the vision of members that the Forum will become a space for staff to bring their thoughts and ideas about how w we can engage with each other more fully in our health service. We also hope that members will assist the health services to scope and develop a staff engagement strategy in the coming years which will directly influence and shape how we involve all staff ff in the design and delivery of services.

Next Steps th

The Forum will meet next on 5 September 2016 to focus on providing feedback on the draft Health Service Employee Survey 2016. The Forum will also discuss the possibilities for a Digital Communications Platform for the HSE. If you’ve any suggestions for the Forum we’d love to hear from you. You can contact Libby and Juanita via Breda O’Dowd. Tel: 091 775953. Email: [email protected]. [email protected] We look forward to the Forum becoming a place where ideas for creating a positive place to work can be heard to and developed.

Rosarii Mannion National Director Human Resources

Dr. Philip Crowley National Director Quality Improvement Division

Who’s involved? The Forum is designed to have a proportional representation of staff which reflects the current staff profile in the health service as shown in the 2015 Health Service Personnel Census. In total, there are 50 staff members from across health and social care re services and there are a number of members from a strategic engagement leadership group committed to driving the change agenda.
