Network Mission to 2019 Pan-American Games - Lima, Peru Opportunities Peru’s economy has grown rapidly over the last ten years and is expected to lead regional growth in 2016. Lima, with a population of around 8 million is one of Latin America’s largest cities and will host the Pan America Games for the very first time in its history from 26 July – 11 August 2019. Delivering an event on this scale brings enormous challenges. The PanAm games will feature a number of regionally specific events alongside the standard 28 within an Olympic programme. London 2012 and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games are viewed most positively in Peru and it is becoming clear that UK companies with expertise in delivering global sporting events will be well placed to secure contracts. With the master plan due for approval in August 2016 and infrastructure contracts to be tendered in early 2017, the timing of this visit of UK companies is good. The organising committee of the PanAm games recently visited the UK and were impressed with the level of interest and expertise in UK and are keen to welcome a UK mission. The UKTI team in Lima has developed an excellent relationship with COPAL and other stakeholders and are keen to position our companies in front of the right people, quickly. Major projects planned/underway include
Athletes Village for 9,000 athletes, Sports Centre (Videna-San Luis), includes aquatic centre and velodrome Coliseum in Callao to house judo etc Sports Centre (Villa Maria del Triunfo), Volleyball court Construction of the 2.4km-long Callao Pan American Aquatic Park for rowing, water skiing, and other water events Sports Centre (San Isidro) for Gymnastics
