Proposal from Youth Connexions to erect a new storage facility at the Abbotts Langley Community Centre in order to support Outdoor activities for young people

This new facility is intended to provide young people aged 13-19 in the Abbots Langley Community area, an opportunity to engage in outdoor activities by providing some bikes which can be used under the supervision of Youth Connexions staff. The aim of the project will be to encourage responsible and safe use of bikes and to promote outdoor, active and healthy activities. Basic road safety advice and bike maintenance skills will be given. The proposed size of the shed would be 18’3” x 12’ and constructed as; ‘Heavy Duty Steel Building and Base’ . Used to store up to 20 bikes and protective wear for young people aged 13 to 19 the facility will ideally require power supply from the Community Centre so that it can be alarmed and provide internal lighting. We will seek permission for this. The Abbots Langley site has been visited with David Abbott and preliminary investigations identified a number of possible locations for this new shed. After consideration of accessibility and landscape three preferred choices remain. Indicated as options; 1, 2 and 3 below: The proposed locations (see site map attached) provide level ground accessibility and afford line of sight from both the Police Station and the kitchen window in the Community Centre. The structure will be visible for all users of the Centre as it is adjacent to the main entrance. •

Option 1: Sitting behind the existing fence with the door facing north. No reduction in the available car park provision. A small additional ground works would be required to provide a suitable hard surface for all weather pedestrian access.

Option 2: Running adjacent to the existing wooden fencing with a north facing door. Little additional works required.

Option 3: Running north-easterly with the door opening in the same direction. Little additional works would be required.
