New teaching opportunities with District Dance Arts! District Dance Arts, a new dance studio in Northeast DC offering ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and creative movement, seeks dance instructors to teach and substitute for the 2015-2016 dance season Sept. 8, 2015 through June 4, 2016. Classes are held at The Capoeira Spot: 2008 Rhode Island Avenue, NE; Washington, DC 20018.

Ballet:  Primary Ballet 2/Primary Tap Combo class (1 hour)  Primary Ballet 2/Jazz 1 Combo class (1 hour)  Primary Ballet 2/3 (1 hour) DDA is implementing the Cecchetti Council of America curriculum in the 2015-2016 season. Instructors will teach the Primary Two and Primary Three curriculum. Cecchetti certification is not required to teach these levels, but candidates will need a solid background in ballet technique and terminology to lead classes. Instructors will have the freedom to design their own lesson plans and assessments within the requirements of the curriculum. Choreography will include a short demonstration for the Dec. 19, 2015 informal showcase and a longer performance for the June 4, 2016 end-of-year production. Ability to also teach jazz and/or tap is required for combination classes (30-min per subject).

Pre-Ballet & Pre-Tap Combo Class  Saturday mornings, 11:00am-12:00pm (4yrs); 12:00pm-1:00pm (5yrs)  Weekdays: Between 3pm-5pm  30-min per subject The ideal candidates have experience guiding pre-school and kindergarten students through basic steps in ballet and tap and creating a fun, structured learning environment that includes play. Tap classes are based on Dance Masters of America curriculum, and ballet is based on Cecchetti Council of America Primary Ballet 1 curriculum. DMA and/or Cecchetti certifications are not required, but candidates will need a solid background in ballet and tap technique and terminology to lead classes. Instructors will have the freedom to design their own lesson plans and assessments within the requirements of the curriculum. Choreography will include a short demonstration for the Dec. 19, 2015 informal showcase and a longer performance for the June 4, 2016 end-of-year production. Jazz 1 Jazz 1 dancers are beginners with 1-2 years of experience who are being introduced to concepts of alignment, placement, and posture; spatial awareness; and coordination. They are building skills in jumping and turning and are learning how to stretch and gain strength and flexibility safely. Jazz classes are based on Dance Masters of America curriculum and instructors will have the freedom to design their own lesson plans and assessments within the requirements of the curriculum. DMA certification is not required, but candidates will need a solid background in ballet and jazz technique and terminology to lead classes. Choreography will include a short demonstration for the Dec. 19, 2015 informal showcase and a longer performance for the June 4, 2016 end-of-year production. Class time: 1 hour.

Hip Hop The ideal instructor has experience teaching beginning students skills such as popping & waving and creates exercises focusing on rhythm & coordination. The instructor can help students build confidence with improve and freestyle. He/she teaches students the history of the dance form along with the dance skills. DDA is building its hip hop program and instructor will have opportunity to help develop the curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments. Candidates will need a solid background in hip hop terminology and history to lead classes. Choreography will include a short demonstration for the Dec. 19, 2015 informal showcase and a longer performance for the June 4, 2016 end-of-year production. Class time: 1 hour

Requirements & Compensation: Two to three years of experience teaching beginner ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop to children ages 4-9 years. A secondary degree in dance, successful completion of a dance instruction certification program, or professional dance experience required. DDA is metro and bus accessible; personal transportation is not required. Compensation will be $25-$40/class, based on instructor qualifications and class enrollment.
