Select Medical, Quantia Improve Patient Care And Extend Acute-Care Expertise Through Innovative Web And Mobile Physician Community Nearly three out of four participating physicians say online, expert-led content influences how they care for their patients MECHANICSBURG, Penn. (April 8, 2015) – Select Medical, a leader in the Long-Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) industry, and Quantia, Inc. (Quantia), the Physician Engagement Platform, today announced the results of a collaboration to help physicians learn from each other nationwide and deliver better care. Leveraging Quantia’s active online community and Select Medical’s specialized expertise, the collaboration resulted in nearly 1,000 physician comments during the initial trial period. Quantia is the developer of QuantiaMD, a web and mobile community of more than 225,000 physician members that allows physicians to learn from experts and peers through concise, interactive presentations and discussions. The company’s Physician Engagement Platform taps into this established community to help hospitals and health systems improve collaboration among their physicians and meet a variety of clinical, operational, and financial objectives. Select Medical chose the Quantia platform to better inform its credentialed physicians across more than 100 hospital locations about best practices, care protocols and leading standards associated with the kinds of complex care that LTACH patients typically require. In addition to offering its physicians access to the thousands of interactive presentations on QuantiaMD, Select Medical added three interactive presentations by its own faculty to the QuantiaMD community, including one called “Mechanical Ventilation in the LTACH Setting” by Neil R. MacIntyre, MD, Professor of Medicine at Duke University and Respiratory Care Medical Director, Durham Select Specialty Hospital. The presentation recommends guidelines around care scenarios that have significant cost and quality-of-life implications. It also includes a survey that allows physicians to share their attitudes about the topic. A poll of physicians who participated in the segment recently showed that 74 percent of them said the presentation influenced how they cared for their patients, with 72 percent saying they are now more confident in managing ventilator patients. “Quantia gives us the opportunity to support clinical collaboration that has a direct impact on the care of our patients,” said Dr. Samuel Hammerman, Chief Medical Officer at Select Medical LTACH Division. “As a member of the QuantiaMD online physician community, I am well aware of the benefits this platform provides. Through this joint effort, Select Medical now offers its affiliated physicians the chance to both learn from and contribute to this active community, with the goal of delivering better care. Offering this service to our providers extends our clinical knowledge base and re-enforces evidence-based treatment strategies.”

As a result of the three interactive presentations posted by Select Medical-credentialed physicians, nearly 1,000 physicians responded with comments and engaged in online question-and-answer sessions with the experts. Dr. Hammerman said the results show that QuantiaMD provides physicians with a much-needed forum to learn and share valuable information that can benefit patients. “Allowing physicians to create a consensus around a best practice strategy based on evidence-based literature – while also remaining innovative and intrinsically independent – leads to the best outcomes,” said Hammerman. “Partnering with Quantia allows Select Medical contribute to a knowledge base and truly make a difference for the thousands of patients across the country.” “We are thrilled that Select Medical chose Quantia as a key element of its physician engagement strategy,” said Mike Coyne, CEO of Quantia. “By combining its expertise and vision with the engaging format and nationwide reach of our platform, Select Medical is not only inspiring behavior change among its own physicians—it’s having a ripple effect on any physician in the country looking to improve acute care within their practice.” To read the full case study, visit http://info.quantia-inc.com/casestudy/select.
