Party like it’s 1946: Vienna’s 70th annual Halloween Parade goes back in time The Town of Vienna and Vienna Business Association “ain’t scared of no ghosts” nor of hosting one of the area’s most popular and time-tested Halloween events: Vienna’s Annual Halloween Parade steps off at 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, along Maple Avenue. This year marks the parade’s 70th anniversary with a “Jivin’ Back to the 1940s” theme to commemorate the decade of the parade’s inception. Children are encouraged to wear costumes and march in the parade along with their parents. Costumed children should gather at United Bank at 374 Maple Avenue East at 6:30 p.m. Maple Avenue will be closed between East Street and Lawyers Road from 6:30-9:30 p.m. If you’d prefer to watch the parade make its way down Maple Avenue, please don’t place any items out on Maple Avenue before noon the day of the parade and keep items off sidewalks, benches, and out of bus shelters. Also, secure all items to ensure that they’re not blown into the roadway or sidewalk. More than 80 floats are registered to participate in the parade as well as bands, community organizations, antique and other cars, and performers. Awards will be presented in the following categories: youth band, float with and without music, youth performer, antique/classic vehicle, adult band, and adult performer. Awards will be presented at the November 7 Town Council meeting at 8 p.m. For more information, call Vienna’s Parks and Recreation Department at 703-255-6360.
