Navajo Nation Fair On September 8, 2016 the Department of Indian Affairs along with multiple state agencies attended the Navajo National Fair for Ashkii Happy Kids Day in celebration of our children, our culture and our people. The day was filled with traditional songs and dancing, motivational speeches, and appearances by President Russell Begay of the Navajo Nation and former college basketball player, Jude Schimmel. There were over 2,500 children that attend the Navajo Nation fair. They took part in the hands-on activities offered by other organizations that were present at the fair. Activities included roping, obstacle courses, planting, and games. The experiences each child had will build fond memories to take with them throughout their lifetime.

New Mexico Infrastructure Finance Conference

This year’s New Mexico Infrastructure Finance Conference will take place October 26 – 28, 2016 at the Ruidoso Convention Center in Ruidoso, NM. The conference will provide an opportunity to network with each other and learn about new projects your peers have completed. We will also be discussing options for funding for future projects and how to go about getting additional technical assistance. The New Mexico Infrastructure Finance Conference (NMIFC) was formed in 1995 to help support the planning and funding of sustainable infrastructure projects throughout New Mexico. Tribal Track Session Preview “Sustainable Solutions for a Resilient Future,” our staff created a tribal track that exhibited innovative solutions, projects that could be replicated within your own tribal community, and technical assistance for funding. Infrastructure is not just waterlines, roads, and power lines; it is so much more. Listed below is a preview of the sessions offered within the Tribal Track of the conference.

This session will feature presentations from the Wastewater Compliance Systems, USDA Rural Development, and the Pueblo of Zia. The Wastewater Compliance Systems will present information about lagoon nitrification and denitrification, using a fixed film Bio-Dome system. The Pueblo of Zia will present their Solar Photo-voltaic System, best practices, and how to replicate this project. The USDA Rural Development program will discuss their various funding opportunities and the types of technical support offered to tribes.
