Newsletter 21 16th February 2018 Inspection Outcomes We are delighted to share with you two letters that we have received this week. The Minister of State for Schools has written to congratulate us on being in the top 2% of schools nationally. This is a wonderful achievement for us as a school and reflects the hard work of our staff and children. http://bit.ly/MinisterLetter2018 However, statistics only tell a small part of what a school is like, particularly when our results can vary each year due to our small numbers and the percentage each child represents. So it has also been a pleasure to read the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection which confirms our status as a ‘good’ school. The letter recognises and celebrates many of the things which we do as a school and of which we are already proud. As no major areas for development were highlighted, we agreed our ‘next steps’ with the inspector, based on areas we are already working on. Again, this positive feedback is a reflection of the way staff, families, children, governors and our church community, all work together to make our school the special place that it is. The report will be available online at the end of next week but you can view it now using the link http://bit.ly/Ofsted2018 Special dinner times: Fairtrade Lunch The church was buzzing with Fairtrade fun on Tuesday. Children were able to see that there are many more items than just chocolate, that can be Fairtrade, with activities focusing on flowers, bananas, olives, cotton tshirts and sustainability. The Fairtrade action group supported by the Junior Leadership Team manned a number of activities. Austin and Sam R were our banana javelin champions whilst the fastest olive pickers were Nelly, Molly H, Henry, Dan K and Noah H. There were an amazing 17 different Fairtrade ingredients used in the school dinner. Congratulations to William for working out the correct number. More photos and video of the Fairtrade Group assembly at http://bit.ly/Fairtradelunch2018 2. Chinese Themed Lunch Year 3 and 4 have had a wonderful themed day, dressed in the colours of the Chinese flag and Chinese style outfits. Their persuasive writing to Mrs Jolly, also meant everyone in school could enjoy a Chinese menu at lunchtime, including fortune cookies. Delicious!

Eco Team Elections Having been awarded a school’s green Eco Flag several years ago, the Junior Leadership Team (JLT) decided that we should renew our eco work. They planned and led an assembly to explain this to the rest of school and organised an election to form an Eco Team with representatives from each year group from Year 1 upwards. Well Done to Ben, Austin, Joel, Esme and Zac on being elected to lead our school’s Eco work. World Book Day Children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character for the day on Thursday 1st March. Home-made costumes can be easy and fun for your child to make this half term. For some simple ideas, go to https://www.bookaid.org/supportus/world-book-day/world-book-day-dress-up/ Or http://www.worldbookday.com/dressing-up/ Mrs Jolly will be preparing a Roald Dahl Revolting Recipes themed lunch. We are sending home World Book Day vouchers today. You can use these to buy a specially produced World Book Day title or to get £1 off any children’s book. These are valid from Monday 26 February–Sunday 25 March 2018 but for the best choice of £1 books, use them early. Parents Evenings Appointment times have been sent home for parents who have already booked to meet their child’s teacher. If you are unable to come on either day, please let us know and we will arrange an alternative. Save the Date Read Write Inc Curriculum Evening We are holding an information evening for parents of children in Foundation and Key Stage 1 to explain how we are now using the Read Write Inc programme and books and how these will be replacing our current Oxford Reading Tree scheme as the way in which children practise their reading at home. This will take place on Wednesday 14th March from 6.15pm. More information to follow after half term.

Class News Foundation Stage Our recycled jar sale was a huge success today! The children loved invited their grown ups into school to show off their beautiful pieces and practise being shop keepers. It was lovely to see staff come along and support the sale too. Thank you for being so generous with your donations and for all of your support as always. We will share our mini grand total with you all after the holidays. We hope you enjoy your break! Miss Painter, Mrs Lovell, Mrs Stearne, Mrs Thompson, Mrs Gaimster

Class 1 The children in Class 1 have completed their final engineering project this week. After spending time carefully researching flight, we were confident we could construct an invention to make Great-Great Aunt Rose fly! First, we designed our flying inventions and wrote a list of materials we would need. We then worked so hard to create our inventions. We had flying hats, jet packs, rocket fuelled shoes and hot air balloons, to name but a few. We hope you love our inventions as much as Aunt Rose does!

Schofield, Mrs Ross

Class 2 After weeks of investigation, inference and research, the Mandarin’s trail took place this week. With one class preparing the case for prosecution, and the other defence, the defendant was ready to take the stand. The jury’s verdict? NOT GUILTY! But wait...new evidence has come to light- Koong-Si has been found. Police located her in the Mandarin’s basement where she claimed she was held against her will! Finally, to celebrate all of the fantastic learning that has taken place this half term we are celebrating Chinese New year in style! Children will be learning about the festival, eating scrumptious food and doing lots of arts and crafts! Miss Aspinall, Miss Riley, Mrs Brammer

Class 3 Class 3 have finally figured out who the third mystery body found at the scene of the crime is. After acting out the final scene of the play, Romeo and Juliet, the children were shocked to find out how Juliet’s plan to fake her own death ended in tragedy. The question remains, ‘Who was to blame for this terrible heartbreak?’ Friar Lawrence? Both families at war? Or was it simply the fault of love? How coincidental that our story of true love ended on Valentine’s Day! The children have been busy reporting the story and have produced their own newspaper articles. Mrs Findlay, Mrs Callaghan, Mr Hammond 3
