Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship Info Session The Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The award is intended for students from all ethnic, racial and social backgrounds with an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. Undergraduate Opportunities in Germany and DAAD RISE Info Session DEADLINE: JANUARY 31 DAAD has two funding opportunities for students interested in conducting study or research in Germany. DAAD RISE matches biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and engineering students with research groups for a 2-3 month summer research opportunity. For students of all academic disciplines, DAAD Undergraduate Scholarships allow sophomores or juniors of all disciplines to study, conduct research, or complete an internship in Germany for 4-10 months during their junior or senior year (respectively). The Beinecke Scholarship DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 24 The Beinecke Scholarship is a highly competitive merit and financial-need scholarship that assists with graduate-level funding for study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Applicants must be US citizens or nationals. Pitt can only nominate one applicant for this award; if you are interested in applying, contact Judy Zang immediately.

Amgen Scholars US Program DEADLINE: Early February (differs by program site) The Amgen Scholars US Program is a summer research experience that allows undergraduate sophomores, juniors, and non-graduating seniors to conduct research at a science or Biotechnology laboratory in one of ten US universities for 8-10 weeks. Previous research experience is not necessary, but applicants must have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D or M.D./Ph.D. US citizenship or permanent residency is required.

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Fellowship for the Arts DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 9 The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Arts Award enables students or recent alumni with exceptional artistic or creative promise and significant financial need to pursue up to three years of study at an accredited graduate institution in the US or abroad. Pitt may nominate two students to be considered for this award; e-mail Judy Zang as soon as possible if you are interested in applying.

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program DEADLINE: MARCH 1 The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants to U.S. citizen Pell Grant recipients to study abroad. The program aims to encourage students who have been under-represented in study abroad to choose non-traditional destinations. The Gilman application does not require recommendation letters. Applications for this scholarship are due March 1, but applicants must allow time to receive Study Abroad Office and Financial Aid approval before submission of their application. If you wish to receive guidance on your application, please contact Carol Larson or Judy Zang by February 1.

Institute for International Public Policy DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 15 IIPP Fellows apply as sophomores and commit to a multi-year education and training program that includes (but is not limited to) the following: summers of fellowshiprelated activities; study abroad; an internship; and application to and completion of a Master’s-level graduate program focused on international affairs. IIPP Fellows must complete all requirements of the program within seven years of receiving the award. US Citizenship is NOT required.

UHC Summer Research Abroad Awards DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 1 Up to ten UHC Summer Research Abroad Awards are available to support international travel for a minimum of five weeks during the summer to conduct an original research project under the direction of a faculty mentor. Although travel with the faculty mentor is possible, students may conduct their research abroad without the cooperating faculty member’s presence at the research site. Non-US citizens may apply.

Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab Recruitment Drive Deadline: JANUARY 31 The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is currently soliciting applications for a variety of international research positions. J-PAL's mission is to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is based on scientific evidence. Applicants should have a strong background in economics and research and a desire to conduct research abroad for at least one year. Previous experience in developing countries is a plus.

Fulbright UK Summer Institutes DEADLINE: MARCH 16 The Fulbright UK Summer Institutes are 3-6 week summer programs at world-class UK universities or cultural institutions. Programs are offered at six locations and address a range of disciplines or focus on specific disciplines such as theatre, art and design, archaeology and Irish studies. This award is open to US citizen freshmen and sophomores.

The Whitaker International Fellowship DEADLINE: JANUARY 23 The Whitaker International Fellowship supports international bioengineering research or graduate studies. Seniors or recent graduates are eligible to apply. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
