In recent times, reality TV has been consistent in the nations’ programming favourites. Most shows are about differences. So, you have shows like Strictly or I’m a celebrity that takes famous folk and challenges them to do something. Alternatively, there are BGT and the X factor which takes ordinary people who wish to achieve fame. There would appear to be no shortage so the theme will continue as long as the appetite is there.

As we embark on Alpha and consider questions of identity and truth, what is striking is that most Bible characters are not rich or famous. From the nativity characters to the disciples, the tapestry is woven with realism. The Bible is very clear there are no ordinary folk in God’s eyes. He does not focus on the exterior - he sees our value and our worth. He sent his son for each one of us. Not just the rich and famous but the lonely, the ill, the outcast. This is good news; you truly are most precious in his sight. In Gods eyes, you already have that X factor. COWES BAPTIST RAMBLERS for those in the church & friends, to ramble once a month and to include a stop for lunch. The next 2 rambles are: FRIDAY 1 SEPTEMBER Meet at church at 10am, to go to Wroxall & Ventnor Radar Station (4.5 miles) & The Star for lunch FRIDAY 29 SEPTEMBER Meet at church at 10am, to go to Godshill, Lessland & Freemantle Gate (5 miles) & The Griffin for lunch Car lifts will be available. Route may change according to the weather. If the weather is doubtful on the day, please phone John Featherstone (291116 or 07922233378) by 9.30am. Barbara Colebrook & John Featherstone

Alpha will be starting on Tuesday 3rd October, 7pm at the Church. It is a journey that would be all the more embraced if as many of us as possible could attend, share and learn from one another, as well as bring friends and loved ones. There will be signup sheets at the back.

Foodbank - A warm thank you to everyone who donates regularly - in terms of food, time and money. Foodbank clothing and textile sales are on the first Saturday of every month, 10am till 1pm.
