NEWSLETTER Issue 2, April 2018

President’s Post HOORAY It’s GAMEDAY….and the St Cats club is bursting with 498 members! For those of you desperate to organise carpools and days out, jump onto the qcsa.org.au website for the recent release of game schedules. Our teams are filling up fast, I am positive we will hit 500 players in the next couple of weeks. We are still looking for U8 and U12 players in particular and there are at least a couple of spots left in other age groups. If you have friends and family ‘thinking about it’, tell them to get in quick. Thank you to those dedicated parents that turned up to help with the “flash working bee” and a special shout out to Kelvin Hirini for his superhuman efforts with the fields. Don’t forget to check with your team manager to find out when your team is on field setup/pack up. To help you with your morning wakeup and caffeine shot, you may want to support one of our fantastic local cafes post-setup! St Cats is special because of its members, many of whom are volunteers. With so many members, the “harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”. Please consider taking on a volunteer Manager position as we have a significant lack of these in the club. The manager is there as a link between coach and parents and to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible. Finally, it’s going to be an extra special season this year, as it is the Club’s 40th Anniversary. For a free and fun day out, the club will be hosting a family day for its loyal members on Sunday, 22nd April from 2-4pm – so put that in your diaries now. There will be BBQs, icecreams, zorb soccer, jumping castles and Looney-tunes on the big screen – it doesn’t get better than that! Come and be part of Club history with a group photo of the event. See you down at the fields! Mark Spicer President St Catherine’s United Football Club

One Agency New Canteen Sponsor

Field Sponsors:

St Catherine’s United Football Club is thrilled to announce One Agency as our new Canteen Sponsor. Director & Principal, Matt Goode has lived and worked in the Centenary Suburbs for over 15 years with over 11 of those years, marketing & selling real estate. One Agency Centenary Suburbs has been operating for just on 3 years and really came from Matt’s desire to create a local agency that changes the ‘real estate agent’ perception, lifts the standard of what sellers & buyers expect and provide a more personalised service. Matt’s passion for our local community shows. “I love living & selling in the Centenary Suburbs! In my opinion, it’s Brisbane’s most liveable area & best kept secret. The quality of life, the family friendly community and the ever-improving infrastructure makes it an area that many of its residents are reluctant to leave and many more are happily discovering.” Like many local families that upsize or downsize, the Goode Family first lived in Jamboree Heights and then moved to Westlake. Along with wife, Andrea they have raised 2 sons, Alex & Pete who both have played for St Cats in their junior days. With One Agency Centenary Suburb’s business growing, Andrea has now joined in a Sales & administration role and is looking forward to meeting and helping local residents achieve their goals. Real estate is a very simple process if it is done right. List your property with One Agency Centenary Suburbs and they will show you how to achieve a premium price for your property in a time frame & manner that best suits your needs. Contact Matt Goode on 0401 955 555 or email [email protected].

We can redesign your kitchen, focusing on practicality along with latest trends and styles, whilst getting the best out of the space and your budget. We have a comprehensive selection of doors, benchtops, splash backs and storage solutions to make your kitchen both functional, but also beautiful. Code of Behaviour  Remember that young people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of the fun.  Never ridicule or yell at a young player for making a mistake or not coming first.  Be reasonable in your demands on players’ time, energy and enthusiasm.  Operate within the rules and spirit of your sport and teach your players to do the same.  Ensure that the time players spend with you is a positive experience. All young people are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.  Avoid overplaying the talented players; the ‘just average’ need and deserve equal time.  Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of all players.  Display control, respect and professionalism to all involved with the sport. This includes opponents, coaches, officials, administrators, the media, parents and spectators. Encourage players to do the same.  Show concern and caution towards sick and injured players. Follow the advice of a physician when determining whether an injured player is ready to recommence training or competition.

PLEASE REMEMBER 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

THESE ARE KIDS! THIS IS A GAME THE COACHES ARE VOLUNTEERS THE REFEREES ARE HUMAN THIS IS NOT THE WORLD CUP

Be a Good Sport 

All St Cats players are encouraged to play in the spirit of St Cats – play hard, play strong and play fair, with full enjoyment in the game.

All parents and players should respect the referee and the opposition at all times. Respect the official’s decision and teach children to do likewise.

Play by the rules.

Control your temper. Verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players or deliberately distracting or provoking an opponent are not acceptable or permitted behaviours in any sport.

All parents and players should respect the role and position of your child’s coach. The coach is a volunteer and has given up their free time.

Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators. Without them, your child could not participate.

Focus on your child’s effort and performance, rather than whether they win or lose.

Remember that children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not yours.

Let’s aim for St Cats to win the ‘Best and Fairest’ club for 2018.

New “Sin Bins” Players can now be sent to the “Sin Bin” for various forms of dissent, including actions or gestures that show negative or aggressive attitude towards a referee, another player or official. The length of the temporary dismissal is 5 minutes for matches U9s to U14s and 10 mins for matches U16s, all Senior Men, Senior Women and over 40s. Please refer to the information sheet “Guide for Temporary Dismissals” on our website for more detailed information.

Good Neighbours Parking can be a real challenge around our fields, especially during peak times on training days and on match days. Please be considerate of the immediate neighbours and do not park across their driveways. St Cats is keen to maintain the great relationship we have with our community and neighbours in the upcoming season.

In the event of Rain Just a reminder there are 3 ways you will find out if your game is cancelled: 1. You can check on the QCSA website (under weather status) to see if the field that you game is scheduled at, is closed. If the field is closed, then you game will be cancelled 2. Your team manager / coach will text or email you and advise that the game has been cancelled. 3. If your game is at Peter Lightfoot Oval, please check the St Cats Facebook page, as we will post the state of the fields on our page. If you do not hear from your team manager/ coach and no news appears on the QCSA website about the respective field you are playing at, then your game will take place, as scheduled. Please do not text or phone the committee enquiring whether fields are closed or not. If you use Facebook please remember to "Like" the St Cat's Facebook page to stay in touch with all the club news,

Did you know… Where the phrase “score

a goal” comes from?

Did you know that small marks were made on the post to keep track of the number of goals? Every time a goal was conceded, a small nick was made into the post. So literally, a goal was “scored” on the post, hence the phrase “to score a goal”!

Staff in Training We have new staff working in the canteen this year, so please show them the St Cats spirit and be patient and kind, while they are being trained.
