Join Everett Fire for Fire Prevention Week open houses starting Oct. 8 Residents encouraged to “Plan 2 Ways Out” of their homes EVERETT – In observance of Fire Prevention Week, the Everett Fire Department is hosting five open houses at stations throughout the city. Attendees will have the chance to meet local firefighters and learn more about making a fire escape plan for their homes. This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is “Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out,” as time is of the essence once a blaze starts, and families may have less than two minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds. “We cannot stress enough the importance of being prepared in the face of emergency,” said Steve Goforth, assistant fire marshal. “It’s always good to have a plan and to practice that plan to make sure all family members know what to do and where to go in the event of a fire.” The Office of Emergency Management will be at the open houses to talk about preparing for non-fire emergencies as well. Open house schedule   Sunday, Oct. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Station 1 (3619 Rucker Avenue)  Tuesday, Oct. 10, from 6:30—8:30 p.m., at Station 5 (1600 Madison Street)  Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 6:30—8:30 p.m., at Station 2 (2201 16th Street)  Thursday, Oct. 12, from 6:30—8:30 p.m., at Station 4 (5920 Glenwood Avenue)  Friday, Oct. 13, from 6:30—8:30 p.m., at Station 6 (9520 Evergreen Way) The public is invited to attend these free open houses, and light refreshments will be provided.
