Founded in 2013, NextGen Climate is a national political organization dedicated to taking action to prevent climate disaster and promote prosperity for all Americans. In 2016, NextGen climate is mobilizing a broad coalition of Ohioans around the #50by30 goal, calling on candidates and elected officials at all levels to lay out a plan to power our country with more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030. Powering our country with more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030 is a bold but achievable goal that will help address the climate crisis, create over 1 million new jobs, and protect our national security. Voters are speaking out in favor of #50by30, and candidates are hearing the call. This year, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton have both signed NextGen Climate’s #50by30 pledge. On Capitol Hill, more than 100 members of Congress—including Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan— introduced a resolution setting an ambitious clean energy goal. The clean energy conversation is happening right here in Ohio The conversation about #50by30 has already begun in Cleveland, Ohio. This February, NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer joined Congressman Tim Ryan, the Reverend Dr. Otis Moss III, Ohio Public Health Association President Claire Boettler, and GreenCityBlueLake Institute Director David Beech to discuss climate change and Ohio’s clean energy opportunity. “Climate change is one of the defining challenges of our time, and is set to have an enormous impact on our economy, health, and national

security. That’s why so many Ohioans are making their voices heard on this issue,” said NextGen Climate President Tom Steyer. “We have a moral imperative to address climate change and take care of the most vulnerable among us,” said Reverend Moss. “I support the #50by30 goal, and strongly believe our next President must have a plan to get us there, so we can protect our common home and all of God’s creations.” “Working in a community health center, I’ve seen far too many children at risk for asthma and other pollution-caused illnesses,” said Claire Boettler, President of the Ohio Public Health Association. “Transitioning to a clean energy economy will not only help address climate change— it will help keep our families healthy.” Ohioans agree: it’s time to transition to clean energy Ohio voters overwhelmingly support increasing our investment in clean energy technologies. According to a recent poll, 83 percent of Ohio voters favor a goal to power our country with more than 50 percent clean energy by 2030. This is an issue with broad bipartisan support. Ohioans are 42 percent more likely to vote for a presidential candidate who supports #50by30, and more than 70 percent of Republicans favor the goal as well. NextGen Climate is working to mobilize Ohioans who support this goal. In communities and on college campuses across the state, NextGen Climate is talking to voters about the importance of addressing climate change, and asking them to pledge to vote for a candidate who supports #50by30.
