“Betty Peabody Emerging Young Leader of Balboa Park Award”

NOMINATION FORM ABOUT THE AWARD Inaugurated in 2016, the “Betty Peabody Emerging Young Leader of Balboa Park” Award recognizes exceptional promise and potential of emerging professionals who have demonstrated leadership by example in Balboa Park. Awardees will have worked in Balboa Park for less than five years and be age 40 and under to qualify. ELIGIBILITY To be eligible for nomination, nominees must be:  40 years of age or younger as of event date (October 18, 2016)  Employed at an arts and cultural institution, arts and cultural organization, or affinity organization residing in and/or operating primarily in Balboa Park. Employer organization must be a 501(c)( 3) nonprofit legally recognized in the state of California.  At least one year but less than five years of experience as an employee in Balboa Park  Nominated by the organization’s chief executive, senior staff member, board of directors, or the award’s host organization, Friends of Balboa Park  Nominations must be endorsed either by the chief executive or, if the chief executive is the nominee, by a member of the board of directors

CRITERIA  

  

BETTY PEABODY (1931 - ) Betty Peabody is the founder of Friends of Balboa Park. She has been volunteering in Balboa Park since moving to San Diego from Oregon in 1969. She served on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Man, Central Balboa Park Association, Balboa Park Expo 2000, The Wednesday Club, The Thursday Club, Youth Tennis San Diego Foundation, House of Hospitality, and Friends of Balboa Park (formerly the Balboa Park Millennium Society). Betty has been honored as a “Woman of Dedication” by the Salvation Army and received numerous awards, including the inaugural and namesake Betty Peabody Award of San Diego County Crime Stoppers; Blue Knight Award by the San Diego Crime Commission; District Three Community Spirit Award; named “Mrs. San Diego” by San Diego Rotary in 2015; and resolutions from the California State Assembly and the City and County of San Diego.

Nominees should be current leaders and/or those with the potential to lead Nominees will have demonstrated leadership or potential to make a significant future contribution to Balboa Park and/or its resident nonprofit community through assuming higher levels of leadership or through enhancing their leadership in a relatively new top management role Nominees will have excelled in any area of operations (i.e., executive leadership, program management, curatorial, development, marketing, volunteer coordination, public relations, outreach), with no more than five years in a position of responsibility Nominees will have demonstrated a commitment to professional development and continuing education for him/herself and others Nominees will have demonstrated a proven ability to collaborate in innovative ways that speak to the future of Balboa Park as a regional, national and international center of cultural enrichment.

Current resume or curriculum vitae of the nominee Finalists may be invited to interview with the Awards Selection Committee or respond to questions via e-mail Selected awardee is asked to attend (free of charge) Friends of Balboa Park’s annual Awards Luncheon on October 18, 2016, for public recognition. Winners will be notified in advance of the event date.

Supporting materials may be submitted but emailed with the nomination form. Limited to three PDF documents. Additionally, please include digital images of your institutional logo, a photo of your building, or other representative images for use in the visual presentation at the awards ceremony.
