Nomination Categories The Mayor’s volunteering programme for London, Team London, makes it quick and easy for Londoners to give their time, find volunteer opportunities and do great things for their city. Whether it’s cleaning up the environment, building stronger communities or volunteering at one of the capital’s great events, Team London mobilises the community spirit and enthusiasm of Londoners to make a difference. The Team London Awards are our chance to celebrate not only the excellence of volunteers but the amazing things we can accomplish when we work together to make London the best city it can be. Categories for Team London 2014 Awards Ceremony reflect the Mayoral priority areas
1. Cleaning and Greening
Activity that creates a better environment in the community, planting, growing, clearing waste ground, rivers, canals, litter clearing. Activity that promotes/enables sustainability.
2. Mentoring & Coaching
One-to-one, or group, mentoring/coaching equipping people with skills and enabling them to take advantage of other life enhancing opportunities, including employment readiness.
3. Sports & Healthy Living
Activity that encourages and supports sporting activity and healthier lifestyles in all sections of the community.
4. My Community
Strengthening relationships across the community, cutting crime, making streets safer, improving inclusion and social activities, volunteering that brings benefit in general to members of the wider local community. This covers any activity that doesn’t fall easily into any of the above categories. Within each of the above categories there will be three awards: - An award for Under 25 - An award for Over 25 - A ‘Team’ award
5. The Mayor’s Special Achievement Award
An award to acknowledge the volunteering journey of an Olympic volunteer, who has continued to volunteer in a different field/s post Games; a volunteer who has made a significant impact, overcome barriers or given exceptional commitment in one of the above Mayoral Priority areas.
Nominees would likely be: Volunteers/Team who have shown outstanding enthusiasm and commitment within one of the above categories Volunteers/Team who have given especially valued long service or contributed particular depth of experience within one of the above categories Volunteers/Team who have achieved outstanding impact through volunteering excellence Volunteers/Team who have given exceptional service to their organisation
Criteria for Individual Awards • Individual must be currently volunteering and based in London. Their effort or contribution must benefit London or Londoners • Activities need to have contributed a positive impact on Greening & Cleaning, Mentoring & Coaching, Sports & Healthy Living and strengthening their local community. • Nominee must be a current volunteer. In the case of the Mayor’s Special Achievement award, the volunteer would have started volunteering during the Olympic period and is still volunteering. • Contribution should stand out from others doing similar work - exceptional either in terms of effort or the outcome which has been achieved • Activity must have been done on a voluntary/unpaid basis • Volunteering must have demonstrable impact • The individual has volunteered on a regular basis, or over a period of time • Demonstration of commitment eg numbers of hours volunteered, longevity, barriers overcome • Activity should be associated with a named project, campaign, group, charity or organisation which is registered or otherwise verifiable and/or has made or is making a considerable impact on a person, group of people, or area within London • Self nominations will not be accepted, nominations need to be made by a third party
Criteria for Team Awards • Members of the team must be based in London and efforts or contributions must benefit London or Londoners • Activities need to have contributed a positive impact on Greening & Cleaning, Mentoring & Coaching, Sports & Healthy Living and strengthening their local community • Activity of team must have taken place within the last year • Contribution should stand out from that of other teams doing similar work - exceptional either in terms of effort or the outcome which has been achieved • All activity must have been done on a voluntary/unpaid basis • Volunteering must have demonstrable impact • Activity should be associated with a named project, campaign, group, charity or organisation which is registered or otherwise verifiable and/or has made or is making a considerable impact on a person, group of people, or area within London • Self nominations will not be accepted, nominations need to be made by a third party
