One important life lesson that I hope our children leave elementary school with is to always use the crosswalk. While I am always holding the sign, keeping traffic from running anyone over, you all know in life, that is not always the case. I know that it is often the shortest distance to cross the street closest to wherever your child is sitting or wherever you are parked, however, it is always safest to use the crosswalk. I feel that we need to set the best example for our students by using the crosswalk whenever we can. Please try to remember this when you are crossing to pick-up or drop-off your children. There are always little eyes watching you, so please try to set the best example.

Christmas Vacation!

Live Thankfully is a program that DISD school have participated in for the past three years! It is a fabulous program that provides the “fixings” for a

Christmas dinner to families that might not otherwise be able to provide one

for their families. We are asking that

each class commit to bringing one part of that dinner. The program also

provides families with a fully cooked

ham. We are collecting food now until December 9th. Families are asked to come and pack the food into grocery

sacks on December 11 at 5:00. This

is a great opportunity for students and little ones to experience what it feels

like to give for the good of giving. It is a wonderful experience that I

encourage everyone to participate in.

More information and the specific item your child needs to bring is on the back of this newsletter.

Young Elementary will be partnering up with Mallory Orthodontics and participating in a program called “Live Thankfully”. We will be providing and delivering Christmas dinners to Young families who are less fortunate. Please help us in our quest to provide foods to fill-up our Live Thankfully tubs. As a community, we will also participate in a “Party with a Purpose” on December 11, where Decatur families and students are encouraged to come package the meals and prepare them for delivery. Please look at the list below to determine what your child’s class is responsible for. Please send those items with your child as soon as possible. We are only collecting November 28 through December 9th. Please mark your calendar for December 11 for the “Party with a Purpose” packing party at 5:00 at the Multi-Purpose Building behind the middle school.
